Affordable MSC programmes in London

Hi There,

I am applying for a master's programme commencing in spring 2015 and require your assistance in choosing a recognised MSC programme in accounting and finance from London, UK. Currently, I am looking into the following universities:

1) Brunel University (Accepted)
2) Queen Mary's University
3) Kingston University
4) Westminster University
5) Middlesex University
6) Coventry University (Accepted for MBA programme)

I have over 3 years of relevant experience along with a certification from a professional accounting body. However, I can only fork around GBP 13,000-15,000 towards my tuition fees. Since, all the above universities fall within my budget, the question is, which university can offer me the best ROI?

I have also thought about doing MBA from Nottingham Malaysia and/or Monash Univeristy Malaysia, however the lack of international exposure marks this option as secondary.

Any advice on the above matter would be heartily cherished.

Out of that bunch, Queen Mary probably by a very long shot. I wouldn't waste my money on any of the other universities.

What do you want to do with this degree, i.e. what's your career aspiration? And what degree do you have, i.e. what did you do at undergrad, and how did you perform?

Also, why the fixation on London? Accommodation and living costs generally are tremendous there. You're probably better off going to a more respectable university, pay more fees but with lower living costs.

Thank you for replying to my post. Can you give me some solid reasons for recommending Queen Mary? I have a bachelor's degree in accounting from Oxford Brookes Uni with upper second class honours. My aspirations is to get a postgraduate degree to support my experience of 3-4 years and apply myself in the European and/or middle eastern market.

The reason I chose London is because I have friends working there and I would be able to share accommodation with them for a bit of time to get started. I hope that makes sense!

Looking forward to seeing your reply.

Queen Mary has the much better reputation, all the other universities are in the same league as Oxford Brookes, and thus wouldn't really help your case much. In your case it's important to make sure the programme also matches your career ambitions, do you know what type of job it is you want to be doing, what particular knowledge is required, and what sort of companies are you aiming at?

So, you've got friends in London, have they told you how much you've got to pay in rent per month, and how much public transport is?

I am currently working as a Sr. financial analyst at a financial services firm and would like to enroll for a programme which provides me with the expertise in quantitative financial modelling, hence a career path driven towards finance would be an ideal scenario.

I know the cost of living is unreal in London, nevertheless, I will try to survive

Could you also provide me your insight regarding Uni of Nottingham Malaysia? Is it worth the hassle considering an accredited MBA could be achieved with the same cost (more or less)?

Don't know much about Nottingham's Malaysia campus.

Financial Modelling, interesting. There's definitely better programmes out there for you to look at than those you mentioned. At Cardiff (my hometome), they've got some great programmes for this, i.e. Financial Economics and International Finance, Banking and Economics - it's near impossible to get on the first one for you but the other one is worth a look, they'll be opening a new postgrad building next week with a dedicated trading room with 56 desks.

MBA is a different beast and would get you in a slightly different career path, unless there's a specialist MBA out there for you.
