hey, im doing radiography this year and I already work in the radiology dpt, and the x-rays wont hurt your skin. you don't get exposed to the radiation and you always wear a lead gown protecting you if you go out and even then you don't get hit by the rays.

job wise, they are both in demand and I know with radiography theres a lot you can go into. CT, MRI, Ultrasound, NM, and you can progress a lot, if you specialise. I don't know much about audiology though so cant help with that

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response! it helped abit.
What made you go into radiography?
Is it biology , chem or physics based ?

no worries.

my current job actually. its actually a decent job and the starting salary is over 21k and I know someone whose been working as a radiographer for 10 years and is now earning over double. 45k I think. so its not bad. plus the variety you see a lot and have a wide area to specialise in.

I haven't started the course yet but from what I hear its mostly bio and physics. because of anatomy and radiation. physics a lot more in 2nd year and the first year is more bio I think.

Awwww atm I'm considering doing Dietetics. However, I'm considering shadowing a radiographer and get a feel for that career.

I'm into Biology. I'm not really into physics but it's not bad

that's sounds good. defo do that and get a rough idea about the degree and course and stuff.

haha I hate physics but its a major part of radiography unfortunately. I prefer chemistry and they barely cover I think. xx

Yeah I will do so!
I've decided that I'm either applying for: Dietetics/radiography/audiology for uni.

I'm confused to whether shadow a radiographer or audiologist. I'll try and apply for radiography at a hospital. And maybe audiology in a different place.

You could try to shadow both  and see which you prefer and get an idea. I heard you get paid a lot for audiology and it's less responsibility but I don't have facts. you might prefer audiology if you don't like physics that much

That's what I'm thinking however, there's a lack of jobs in that area. Plus they do audiology far and I don't wanna live away.

Hopefully, I get to shadow both  for now I'm ganna apply for radiography work experience!
Hi! I've just been reading your posts and I'm in the same position as you! at first i was considering applying for radiography but i heard the job is very stressful in terms of having to be available for night shifts and on-call shifts in A&E.:s-smilie:

I didn't get the chance to do work experience for radiography i tried many hospitals but most of them didn't accept :frown: If you do shadow a radiographer, could you please let me know what you thought of it/what your experience was like?

I am planning to get audiology work experience soon because I'm thinking it's a better choice but still not sure yet :frown: If I do shadow an audiologist I'll let you know how my experience was

I have no experience of audiology at all, but I'd say radiography (not radiology - that's a branch of medicine) is more demanding, but has great prospects, there are many things you can do post-gad (MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear medicine, reporting, research, education, etc) there's so much you can do and radiography is constantly advancing. I start my radiography course on Monday and I can't wait.

No, radiographers aren't in danger of radiation exposure, so long as they take all the safety precautions. They're also required, by law, to wear a safety device called a thermo-luminescent dosimeter which will record any exposure they may have accidentally received.

No, I don't believe radiation will exacerbate your eczema.

Really take some time and research various courses, do something that genuinely interests you and that you see yourself doing long term. I started out in nursing and decided that wasn't for me, radiography is definitely where I want to be.

Edit: Just seen I've pretty much repeated what ZuluK said, but yeah lol, hope this helps.

Thanks  I haven't even sent off my application form...

I'll tell you how it goes if I get a place.

I'm also considering becoming a dietician
