Hi,
I am in year 12 currently and i was always set on applying for audiology degree but now i am thinking about speech and language therapy. Just wanted to know what taking these courses would be like and what the future of either audiology or SLT would be.
Thanks!!

I'm not an expert in either of the courses you mention, but I've listed some resources that might help you. I would also recommend that you go to some uni open days this term and attend subject talks for both courses. You will get the opportunity to talk to staff and students about the courses. My daughter had four possible course options at this stage and homed in on her favourite after attending two different open days.

Hello, Im a current audiology student and I have a friend that studies speech and language therapy. In terms of audiology as a course I have found it focuses mainly on hearing aids, performing hearing tests and similar procedures to assess a patient's hearing and ultimately provide them with hearing aids or a similar device to help them hear. This means especially in your first year you will likely be taught about hearing aids and how they work and the science behind them, you will also likely be able to observe audiology assessments on placement which can be at a private or NHS clinic and I think you'll find everything is very routine. You will also have practical sessions that teach you how to do these tests/procedures. SLT is quite different as you will be focusing on a patient's speech and will be taught how to accurately assess a patient for speech-related disorders and come up with care plans for them, I have noticed most of the learning is done during placement, and through lectures and class sizes tend to be bigger than those for audiology. In terms of the future of these courses, the demand for both is rising, sometimes there are opportunities to work abroad and work privately. There is also the STP program in which you can train after the degree to become a clinical scientist within the NHS. hope this helped
