What is life in Chester like?

Hi,
I have been given an offer of BBB to study psychology at Chester and i am very excited, I think I am going to put it as my firm choice. I was wondering what it is like to study at Chester and what the uni life is like etc, does anyone have any advice?
Hi Freya

I like Chester well enough. Its a small enough city to not feel intimidating but big enough to sort of get lost. There are a few nightclubs, lots of bars, most high street stores etc.

have u visited chester before?

Thankyou and yes I have visited,I like it but it is hard to get an idea of what it is like to live somewhere on just a visit and I wondered if there is much to do on campus as it seems a little small?

I can't say as I dont' live on campus... but it's only a 5 - 10 minute walk into the city from the campus and there is a tonne of sports and societies to join!

Hi Freya, only just seen this.

I'm a first year student at the University and live in uni accommodation. Chester is a great place to live! The city was one of the main drivers for me coming here. If you like the outdoors and nature, the River Dee and walks along it are amazing and about 10 minutes walk from campus. There is also a canal, which there is a footpath following. The shops are great! A lot of my friends go shopping often in the city, with there being modern shops; River Island, Topshop, primark (for cheap things!), oasis, h&m, debenhams and a few other high end shops. There's a vintage shop too!

As far as nightlife goes, it can be a cheap night out! The SU is great fun! and you can get a pint for £1.20 and a shot for £1. The city nightlife is about a 10 minute walk from campus and has off the wall, a cheap place that people go before the clubs. You get a free BBQ in there and also single with mixers are £1.50. There are loads of bars, here is how the pub crawl goes: SU, The Bouverie, George and Dragon, Liverpool Arms, Red lion, the shropshire arms and off the wall. There are also a few cocktail bars: Missoula's and fiesta havana's.

Cheshire oaks also is not far, sometimes we share a taxi or you can get a lift from someone you know. Bowling, laser quest, cinema, mini golf, high ended retail shops (for the ones they don't have in Chester) and loads of places to eat! It's honestly amazing and way better than I thought it'd be!

Uni life is great, it's really about how much you take on board. Some people do nothing and stay in bed and barely make it to lectures, others do sports, societies, volunteering, part-time job and fit in socialising too! The uni has plenty to offer, it's just about how much you sign up to!

Hope to see you next year
