Black box for a parent's car?

Are you able to have a black box on your parents car to lower the insurance or a similar alternative. If not is there other ways of lowering the cost?

yes you can take out a box policy and they will come and install the box on parents car (provided that its a car they will cover you for, a range rover for example is unlikely)

i wouldnt reccomend, most box policies have limited mileage which may annoy parents. your parents wont be used to driving with box in mind so this will also annoy them, they make go 30 in a 20 and that will impact you and cause problems.

have a good chat with parents if you actually want to do this. id say that if a non box policy doesnt cost too much more than go with that, black boxes are terrible.

Thanks my parents suggested it but I thought you could only have one if its your car for the obvious reason like you said about them affecting your score. I've heard you can get unlimited mileage but it costs more obviously.

itll cost loads

some insurers like tesco or morethan boasts unlimited mileage - but what they mean is unlimited because it's possible to purchase top up miles when you run out. with morethan selling 1000 extra miles at around £400 it's an absolute rip off really.

not sure if there is an actual black box insurer has proper unlimited mileage.

Why would you want a black box on your parents car anyway? If you wnt a black box, put one on your own car.

It's my parents more than anything as I'm not allowed to have my own before starting uni and they recon that it's the cheapest way to lower insurance but I'm not so sure it's worth it

Fair enough.
I wouldn't bother with black box's to be fair. They are more trouble than they are worth and don't always work out cheaper- they often work out more expensive.
