Should Britain introduce a 'Millionaires Tax'?

No, I was brought up and still believe you get what you earn. I don't care about rich people at all, but taking more of their income for being successful is ridiculous.

Are you currently earning money and being taxed?

Some of the hardest working people get paid very little. To say there is a direct correlation between earnings and hard work is ridiculous.

Taxation addresses that imbalance, ensuring that those who work hard but struggle, are given the dignity of affording the basic necessities and having good public services.

Yes I do work and pay tax. I'm happy paying tax, knowing that it goes to vital public services.

Great! If you are so patriotic about paying taxes, perhaps you will be inclined to willingly pay more taxes rather than relying on richer individuals to do so?

For a start, you cannot legally pay more taxes. I pay taxes, I donate to charity.

Clearly however, far more money will be gained if everyone pays the taxes that they should.

In paying all taxes that I owe, I am far more patriotic than those who avoid taxes.

Glad you are accepting that it is ridiculous for people earning 600k a year to be annoyed.

I was congratulating you on paying your taxes.

Again, I will reiterate they make that money, not you. It's so easy for you to say they shouldn't be annoyed to lose that much money because they still have £600k. They've earned that money and shouldn't be imposed with more taxes.

I pay all the taxes that I am expected to pay and they too should pay all taxes that they are expected to pay.

I'm not expecting anything of them that I don't do myself.
Yes I am saying anyone annoyed at earning 600k has something seriously wrong with them.

Oh give over. 'Robbing from the rich', 'wealth creation'. You certainly have all the meaningless soundbites there.

Your logic is laughable. Millionaires keep avoiding tax, so instead of making it more difficult to avoid tax, we should just charge them less tax?
You do realise, that paying no tax is always more attractive than paying tax. So unless we lower tax rates to 0, they will always try and avoid tax. The answer is to make it harder for them to do so.

'Smaller, more efficient government and welfare system'. Again, stop with the meaningless soundbites.

Excuse me, where did I say we should lower tax instead of making it more difficult to evade?

Anyhow, the more income people need to surrender to the government, the more they will be motivated to find ways of avoiding it.

A smaller government with less bureaucracy needs less revenue, I.e. less tax. Same goes for the welfare state. It's not a meaningless soundbite. Cut down on spending, provide tax relief to industries and employers, and gradually shrink the welfare state. The country needs more business and people at work. Even in those 'socialist' Nordic paradises corporation tax is lower and it's easier to start a business.

You don't have some divine entitlement to other people's earnings. Millionaires already fork over more than you ever will in your lifetime. But you want more more more because it's just so unfair that they're rich, isn't it? They should give us their money, or we'll throw them in jail!
Rich people stay rich by living like their poor and pore people stay poor by living like their rich

Corporation tax in Denmark is 24.5%. Corporation tax in Norway is 27%. Corporation tax in Sweden is 22%. Corporation tax in the UK is 16%

Now tell me genius, how is 16% higher than 24.5%, 27% or 22%?

Shrinking the welfare state doesn't put people in work, it just puts more people into poverty.

What a bizarre claim you are making, that because wealthy people try and get round the law, we should reward them by lowering their taxes?

Ah okay, then by that logic, because a certain amount of people commit benefit fraud, we should be less strict about giving benefits?

I pay all taxes that I am supposed to, so should everyone else. It's not about 'punishment', it's about wanting people to fulfil their civic duties of paying taxes.
It's funny that those who claim to be most patriotic, seem to be very lenient on those who commit the unpatriotic act of avoiding taxes. People should pay their taxes with pride, knowing that they are giving back to society.

Your paradise would involve employers working for peanuts and being so darn grateful simply because they have a job.

At the moment for you can actually be better off on benefits than working which is inherently wrong

The answer then is to raise wages. Not ripping away the support from those in dire poverty.

Dire poverty in my home town there is a lady who has 9 children each who has a different farther so the council purchased a 10 bedroom house for her to live in. Yet a family who work and buy a house would have children share rooms

Thanks for that totally meaningless and probably untrue story.

I do find it quite telling that you'd rather reduce benefits than raise wages. I also find it bizarre that so many on here have far more sympathy for millionaires being taxed than they do for desperately poor people going hungry.

As it is the wealthy pay a disproportional share in tax for less back in return, a millionaire tax is straight from the books of those individuals who subscribe to the philosophy of envy, which is left-wing politics.

Ah the Daily Mail, known for never telling lies or exaggerating a story to the point of bs.

Besides, one story of benefit fraud does not mean that millions of others should be punished.

We should introduce a Millionaires tax because the rich are still not paying their way and pulling their weight. Evidenced by the mass poverty and austerity.

The tax would be on an escalator starting from £1 M and increasing with every £500K above that. Tax fraud investigators would keep a close eye on any person who may be using off shore accounts.

It seems drastic but money is needed to provide affordable housing, reduce university tuition fees, welfare money, repair the NHS and help in the nationalisation of the railways etc.

Most of us are working and middle class and expect the upper class to pull their weight more.

is the current 45% not enough????? It's like you earn a cupcake and I come, cut almost half of it and eat it. would you like that?

I still fail to see why you would rather benefits be taken away than wages being risen.
