I firmed it ASAP because I knew as time went on I'd come to doubt myself. If you want to go there, firm it, and stop worrying about whether you'll get in. If they gave you an offer they believe in you, so you should definitely believe in yourself.

I know I am firming it, even though I haven't the confidence that I'll get the grades, but I haven't been able to decide an insurance so I haven't done much yet. Think I am definitely insuring Durham though so I'm gonna do it soon!

That was my problem - I only finalised my insurance choice a couple of weeks ago by which point the doubt had already got me.

Good advice 😀 I might give it tomorrow to talk things through with one of my teachers, or I might do it first thing when I get into school (I'd rather not do it on my tablet in case I pick the wrong one) tomorrow morning and give my chem teacher the shock of her life. Because she will probably start nagging me again if I haven't firmed it. She even made a fuss that I hadn't firmed after she had fainted on Friday during our lesson. I was honestly so shocked to even get an interview, so I don't think I'd even considered what I'd do if I got an offer until I had that letter in my hands in January.

The way to 100% guarantee not getting into Cambridge is by not accepting their offer. *They* professionally consider you to be both good enough to achieve the offer, *and* to do well in the Tripos... otherwise they wouldn't have given you that offer in January. Remember they have over 800 years experience doing this, and spent many hours assessing every aspect of your individual application.

Now indeed, if you think a different university and its course is a genuinely better fit for you then you MUST make that your firm. But if it's just due to a loss of confidence in your ability, a not uncommon feeling at this stage in the process, then honestly the only valid response is to accept Cambridge's considered opinion and accept their offer. They aren't often wrong...

Worst case scenario, you still have an insurance to fall back on. But even taking a gap year and applying elsewhere is by no means a bad outcome.

Cambridge IS my dream course, I can say that now without question. I don't know where the confidence has gone but I wish it would come back a bit more quickly because I'm fed up of all the crying :cry::cry::cry:

Thanks for the advice though, I'll talk it through with people at school this morning and then I think I'm going to go for it. I just wish my tutor would stop being so unsupportive tbh

Ah don't worry, I'm sure you'll manage it this year too  Just remember what you're aiming for

I'm sure you've heard this many times already but if your grades are varying a lot, maybe there's a couple of areas that need work? Make refining those your priority

Yeah I think this mainly occurs in Maths, and I've identified a few topics which need work so that'll improve on this side, but most of it is carelessness more than anything else.

Damn sounds like you need a break bro. Step back and reevaluate your revision and study habits cos at this rate you're gonna have a breakdown halfway through exams

Thanks, yeah I'm taking sundays and saturdays off, which I don't usually and I'll hopefully be fresh then! Regarding revision and study habits, what do you mean? I know content so it's doing past papers to find what I don't know then working on those- don't enjoy not learning new things!

I don't think so, what's that? 😂
Hope you guys remember we are going through this process together :h: the stress of an offer, especially when it's one that's hard to come by, is hard to tell others who aren't experiencing it. Bit of a support network we have going on

I was talking to a friend at Oxford and a friend at Cambridge yesterday. I told them how I was feeling and they said it was natural for this time of year and that we'll all be back to normal by the time exams roll around :h:

Exactly. Which is why "off-site" chats aren't a great idea.

Yeah It's definitely hard to explain to anyone who isnt feeling the same way - and considering I'm the only Oxbridge applicant from my school this year there's literally nobody who gets it. Glad to hear it's a temporary blip in how we're all feeling - it's good you have friends who are already there to talk to. I'm so close to firming it's ridiculous but I'm still not sure.

Yep. Some can be a cover for spammers, and also it's best to share thoughts on this thread. That's what it's here for, especially when current and past students can also chip in with the benefit of their experiences.

I'll have to disagree with you here: the Emma Facebook group chat's got some top-notch banter, the last post on Emma's TSR thread was almost a month ago
