I firmed it ASAP because I knew as time went on I'd come to doubt myself. If you want to go there, firm it, and stop worrying about whether you'll get in. If they gave you an offer they believe in you, so you should definitely believe in yourself.

I know I am firming it, even though I haven't the confidence that I'll get the grades, but I haven't been able to decide an insurance so I haven't done much yet. Think I am definitely insuring Durham though so I'm gonna do it soon!

Good advice 😀 I might give it tomorrow to talk things through with one of my teachers, or I might do it first thing when I get into school (I'd rather not do it on my tablet in case I pick the wrong one) tomorrow morning and give my chem teacher the shock of her life. Because she will probably start nagging me again if I haven't firmed it. She even made a fuss that I hadn't firmed after she had fainted on Friday during our lesson. I was honestly so shocked to even get an interview, so I don't think I'd even considered what I'd do if I got an offer until I had that letter in my hands in January.

The way to 100% guarantee not getting into Cambridge is by not accepting their offer. *They* professionaly consider you to be both good enough to achieve the offer, and to do well in the Tripos.

Now, indeed, if you think a different university and its course is a genuinely better fit for you then you must make that your firm. But if it's just due to a loss of confidence in your ability, a not uncommon feeling at this stage in the process, then honestly the only valid response is to accept Cambridge's view and accept their offer. They aren't often wrong...

Worst case scenario, you still have an insurance to fall back on. But also even taking a gap year and applying elsewhere is by no means a bad outcome.

Remember they have over 800 years experience doing this, and spent many hours assessing every aspect of your individual application.

I'm sure you've heard this many times already but if your grades are varying a lot, maybe there's a couple of areas that need work? Make refining those your priority

I was talking to a friend at Oxford and a friend at Cambridge yesterday. I told them how I was feeling and they said it was natural for this time of year and that we'll all be back to normal by the time exams roll around
