The only way I can deal with this kind of thing is with humour, otherwise I get sad that apparently we haven't moved on from when I got teased for having a Tots TV backpack in year 3. I hope people on this thread know what Tots TV is.

Anyway, I hope everyone with a DS takes it to Cambridge - in fact, I hope that anyone with any hobby takes their 'equipment' to Cambridge. Life is way too short to pretend to be something you're not to please other people. If my eyes didn't hate video games I'd be taking a DS. As it is, I'm 27 and will content myself with taking my Doctor Who Pop figures down.

I'm probably bringing a load of WH models and paints with me; I hear the GW in Cambridge is quite active. Might try to get half as good as my dad at painting. I dont seem to have the endless patience for it.

Omg I want to have a look at your pop vinyls! Who do you have? I have loads of Star Wars ones and Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them!! They line my bedroom. Who's your favourite doctor? I'm going to watch all of the doctor who's from classic who to peter capaldi over summer.

I love the Newt Scamander one. I only have the tenth, eleventh, and Rose - they sit on my bookshelf. I really want Hermione, but I can't decide which version to get. I do have a few soft owls so I should really get some HP pops to go with them.

My favourite doctor is David Tennant but I really liked Matt Smith too. I haven't had the chance to watch a lot of the classic episodes, but I do love Peter Davison. I'll probably watch some Peter Capaldi episodes over the summer because I haven't watched most of them while they've been on air.

Frankly anyone who resorts to trying to upset people by saying they're going to miss their offer clearly does have the maturity level of a year 3.

P.S. I used to love Tots TV. I got picked on in Year 7 for a Pokémon pencil case (it's so cool though). They made fun of me for years, even though I was hardly there. It wasn't fun!

I really want some more HP pops. Particularly Harry, Ron, and Hermione but you're right there are so many variations! I always see Goblet of Fire Ron next to Philosophers stone Harry and Hermione. I like consistency.

I loved Matt Smith, and Tennant. My Dad met Tom Baker when he was a little kid (there's a really funny/adorable story behind that) so that's his favourite Doctor because it was a special encounter for him. The last season with Capaldi was pretty good but I think he's taken a long time to get there. I didn't like Clara much, so that might factor into my perception.

Pencil case politics at school were so brutal. They've always been one of my favourite things to collect, so it was a bit irritating when people laughed at them. I did manage to set a trend with a cool three-pocket Love Heart (the sweets) themed pencil case, though.

I have a soft spot for Clara because Jenna Coleman comes from my hometown (Blackpool). It must have been so cool for your dad to meet Tom Baker - my heart always melts when I see children meeting the doctors when they obviously love the show so much.

Same! I got it for my birthday in year 5 or 6. I thought it was really cool, and everyone else in my year did, and everyone in my year at Primary liked Pokemon. So I didn't see anything wrong with it! I brought it into secondary because practically everyone from my year group was in my year, and it was a small rural village comprehensive (I live in the countryside on the borders of North Yorkshire). I didn't see what was so bad about a pencil case with Pokemon on it, seen as I was only eleven years old and it was a cool pencil case in year 6. Only a mere three months ago!


I love Jenna Coleman, but I just didn't like the characterisation and the "I'm running to save the doctor" thing. Oh it was so cute. So my grandparents ran pubs, and at one such pub Tom Baker visited, wanting a pint and some food I do suspect. My dad got really excited and ran up to him and he asked: "Mr Doctor, why aren't you wearing your scarf?" Tom Baker knelt down and whispered, "if I did, everyone would recognise me and they might try and steal the TARDIS!". He stayed in character for the rest of his time there, just for my Dad, which was just so sweet of him. My Dad was just spellbound!

I have a serious question. My offer is A*A*A for physical natsci with the A*s being required in Further Maths and Chemistry and the A in maths (which I finished last year). I am confident of getting three A*s in these three but my fourth subject, physics, for which no grade was required but is the subject I want to specialise in and is normally my best subject went very badly in the last paper. I had extenuating circumstances because my pet died that morning, I was sitting next to a door which kept being opened and I changed module that morning. Do you think that I will encounter any problems if I have say A*A*A*B? (Given that it is the subject at present I would most like to study throughout the three years)

You won't encounter any problems but it would be a bit unusual for a phys natsci to get a B in Physics! When you say you changed module that morning, what do you mean? Is this in reference to the AQA optional papers (astro etc.)?

You'll probably get further with this if you adjust that attitude. It won't go down well at Cambridge, I can assure you.



The 'extenuating circumstances' you detail are, frankly, minor and irrelevant. A door being opened... I suggest you ditch this line - it will just antagonise people. As to the rest of it - you've said your offer is for 3 A levels, the standard offer of A*/A*/A? Thus, you can get a U in physics and, so long as you've made your offer in the three subjects requested, you'll be offered the place. If you want to do physics in IA, then that will be down to your DoS in consultation with you, but I don't remember anyone being denied the chance to do it because they didn't get an A* in it at A level.
