Fenton House Sheffield

Hi I’m thinking of choosing IQ Fenton House as my accommodation, I’ll be starting this year at Sheffield Hallam Collegiate Campus. What are people’s views or experiences on this accommodation for a first year student ? Thanks in advance x

It is well located, but why have you opted for this rather than Uni accommodation where you will be with more first years? Go and have a look round if you can.

I liked the facilities there , the location and the standard of the property . I looked around at a few and liked this one the best as well as The Elements which was still being built ... will there not be many first year students at Fenton House then ? If so , why not ? Thanks x

Fenton House is owned by IQ so it's private halls. This means it's not exclusive to Hallam and most first-years tend to go direct with university-owned halls rather than private ones.

Ask. By all means go there, but there will be fewer as most first years will o for uni property so they can hook up with other freshers.

Gatecrasher opened just last year and there are a few others.

This place is just opening in September so will be brand new.

Is there any university owned ones that you’d recommend or that are on par with Fenton House ? Thanks x

No. It's owned by Collegiate.

They're known for having lots of fancy marketing material (and generally overpriced).

Nope private. I was just pointing it out because its brand new. Closer to the uni but a bit more away from shops. Very large hall.

Liberty Hall and Devonshire Courtyard are the ones closest to Fenton.

Thanks I’ve looked at both Liberty and Devonshire at the open day. The new collegiate one - what are the chances of first year students being there ? As much as it’s very important to me to live somewhere of a high standard it’s also equally important to me that I get to meet new people and socialise x

You probably won't find many first-years there as it's not university owned. Even if you do, they're probably going to be international students as private providers have a lot of targeted advertisements.
