Was austerity a lie?

Did austerity ever exist in the first place or was it just political spin to stuff hard working people over and over with more tax?

Those who choose not to work and happy to live on welfare have never had it better it seems. They always seem to have the latest iphone, go on multiple holidays a year and smoke/drink endlessly. If you do nothing, can work but choose welfare instead why do you need to go on holiday?

Why do we have millions of Eastern Europeans doing work that British folk sitting idle on welfare benefits should be doing instead?

Austerity never existed in my opinion. Those who choose to contribute nothing to society continue to get away with it

I mean as far as lies go it was a **** one at best, surely if they were lying they would have told us that we were all living some kind of utopian dream.

My point is that those on welfare have always had a cushy existence, stable tax free income with no obligation and can do it for generations passing it onto their kids this philosophy of survival.

For them austerity never happened, even with supposed welfare reform they have always been financially better off than those that work. Why does someone who chooses not to work, smokes and drinks all day then has the need to go on holiday. Why?

Are you high or seriously so utterly ignorant of the post-crash years that you think that is in any way true?
If you're going to try and spout Dailymail-esque propaganda at least do us the courtesy of fact checking and referencing your specious claims.

Because they work harder, longer and cheaper. Simple market forces there.

Your opinion is wrong.
Pray tell what you contribute to society though? I'm going to assume you're a teenager or a student? Someone who by definition is a layabout..

Sadly I probably paid more tax than you ever did. I admit I was stupid I should have just chosen a life of welfare instead as in this country its a lifestyle choice and a much better one at that!
Bit off topic but...

Why do immigrants have jobs that brits don’t? Cause they are willing to do the jobs we don’t wanna do. Cleaning, babysitting, construction, nursing: all these professions are dominated by people who are willing to do anything to support themselves and their families. Many Brits are unwilling to do said jobs.

What is/was your income?
what do you base your views on? not from facts, it seems. I'm on universal credit and i can tell you, it's no cushy lifestyle. i'm living with my dad, if i had other expenses like rent it would be impossible.
lmao how much do you think benefits give you?

Clearly must be doing something wrong in claiming then when you see the rest on welfare smoking and drinking all day while watching TV and messing around on their brand new iphones.

Rather than complain that Eastern Europeans take your jobs why do not do a job they do instead of bludging, going down the welfare route then having the gall to complain it isnt enough?

Exactly so its high time so you werent given a choice of welfare over work. Essentially you should be told ok heres a job, dont wanna do it then you have voluntarily unemployed yourself, no benefits for you.

Any issues with that? How can anyone justify the status quo to enable lazy brits to sit on their fat arses all day

It's difficult to argue with someone who is so ignorant and prejudiced.
Go inform yourself of the facts and then we can talk. This does not include the sun or the daily mail.
Most people claiming benefits aren't even unemployed they just don't earn enough to live on so they have to supplement it. It's a situation that literally anyone can find themselves in so there is no unified way that benefit claimants behave.

ok do you work? If not, if your benefits were stopped would you seek employment? How is it that immigrants can be employed on low paid jobs without claiming benefits?

im disabled so no, I don't work. not that it's any of your business. it's not about me, it's about the statistics. there are immigrants on benefits too, and british people who work but don't claim. in fact unemployment in the uk is at its lowest because millions of people, british and immigrants alike, work on zero hours contracts or part time. you just generalise whole groups of people. I have a British friend who works two crap jobs and still doesn't have enough to live on, and she doesn't claim.

Here right in the flesh, we see a hardcore UKIP voter.

Of course we had austerity, it was needed to reduce the crippling deficit the last Labour government left us in. Those pesky Eastern Europeans are here doing the work because our welfare system demotivates British people from working. It's a foolish and ignorant thought process to think that if you just kicked out all the Eastern Europeans, that British people would fill all their jobs, because that just wouldn't happen.

No, austerity was a political choice that has crippled our nhs, education and public services and left millions worse off.

Do you even know what austerity is? The literal definition is "difficult economic conditions created by government measures to reduce public expenditure" this is what happened, government spending declined year on year for this very purpose, to reduce public expenditure.
