Can I apply for van driving work when I hold a car driving licence?

I think I can.

I did phone an agency and I said I have a car driving licence and then I'm eligible for van driving work.
Did you pass your test after January 1997? If so you can drive a van up to 3500kg I believe.
Yeah can drive 'basic' vans on a car licence as far as i know.
So long as it’s a van and not a HGV, you should be ok

You can check for yourself here: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

If you passed after 1st Jan 1997, then it'll be a max weight of 3.5 tonnes.
Depends what vans they use. Some vans are under the 3.5T weight limit on Class B, some are over (C1?)

Almost all "vans" are under 3500kg GVW and thus can be driven on a normal car licence. I think Iveco make a 4500kg GVW van, Mercedes do 4100kg and 5000kg GVW versions of the Sprinter, and I believe some of the dually rear axle Transits are like 4200kg GVW, but 99% of vans on the road can be driven on a normal car licence as they're 3500kg or below GVW.
