He needs to phone the bank and ask about the terms and conditions of his account and actually pay attention because right now he sounds neck deep in debt and it's only going to get worse when the overdraft period ends, and then he's going to have to pay all that money back plus whatever the interest rate is.

He said he got a letter about it and they said that because of the account he's in he won't be charged or anything

He only went over by £50

Definitely an overdraft he's got with the account then.

Also he's very lucky to have you. You worry on his behalf and seem to be doing much more to discover the ins and outs of "the adult world of banking and finances" than he's concerned!
