hahaha sowwy :P I don't mind cognitive thaaaaaat much, and I do definitely think the biological part is important, I'm not undermining either of them...I just don't find them that interesting...I lean more towards the social and cultural aspects :P
maybe it was just the experiences I had with those perspectives in class or maybe it was the textbook we had :P
I'm all set to give them another chance though  anything to avoid that poo :P

Do you happen to know something about our reading list? I've heard other departments sent theirs. I wish we knew too
oh and I'm interested in research, I'd love to work in research someday (developmental, clinical, social) but I'm eager to get to UCL and see which part of psychology actually fits me best.

Yee as for the reading list, doesn't seem like there's much on it:
This is just the list for the first term I made:
http://www.brain-freeze.co.uk/files/readinglistterm1uclpsych.pdf

I think that http://www.badscience.net/ might be worth looking through
though, seems like the author updates it a lot =)

Or just go on this link and click each unit then 'course information'.

Hmm I think everything on the site is for 2009 so we may require different books =o

hey thanks!
Yes I was also wondering whether we could still use the site for 2009. I wish they'd tell us.
Should we get all of them ? I mean, there are 3 books for statistical methods. Do we need to buy all 3 of them or is it more a matter of one's choice?

I don't think we have to buy any of them really, it does say
'Note you can find the book and journals in the UCL Science library' for the 'Introduction to Psychological Experiments' unit.

As for the 'Concepts and Methods in Psychology' unit, it says
'None of these are recommended books as such, and it is not necessary to purchase one'. Hmm not sure about this one, did you study psychology at school?

Most of them are really expensive anyway, so I guess we're meant to wait until we get to uni and then just borrow them from the library. They should really have enough copies of each book for all of us there.

Now that's a relief
I did study psychology at school but I'm afraid my textbook was different from what you guys study at A levels. Don't know this for sure, though. I studied topics such as Memory, Imagination, Thinking, Creativity, Language, Intelligence, Personality, Voluntary activity and others.. what about you?

Ooo seems like you studied mostly cognitive psychology. Um the topics I did (though they vary slightly between schools): Childhood attachment, Memory, Stress, Psychoabnormality, Social influences, Relationships, Gender, Aggression, Depression, Addiction. So I guess the A Level is a bit more broad than what your school taught you.

I think I remember them saying at the interview day that something like 1/3 students who study psychology at UCL didn't actually study it formally at school. So I assume that's why they actually cover pretty much all of the A Level material in the first term.

However, I suppose if you just watched and took notes on these lectures (apart from the introduction one) you'd learn most of what was covered in my A Level course if you wanted.

As far as essay writing goes I'm not sure how different it would be for A Level compared to what you did at school, but here's a sample essay anyway if you want to compare:
