Extremely High Bill?

We as a six bedroom house have recently received our bill, from the date 25 November 2013 - 17 February 2014. Meter readings have been given and the total bill has come to: £1,458.07.

Electricity: £557.25
Gas: £900.82

We think that the electric is accurate, but the gas seems excessively high. Everything is electric, only the radiator and hot water.

Anyone can advise/Help.

Gas is expensive!! In our one bedroom flat we spend around £2 per day on gas in winter, even though we try to only have the heating on for a few hours.
It does seem very expensive but that's a big house! and how often do you have the heat on/ have deep baths and long showers?
Our gas (in winter) is usually around double the electric.

We have no bath, and no one takes long showers or multiple ones. The meter readings are correct, i checked and double checked, when we moved in we made sure we were not at fault for past tenants, it just seems very very high to us.
You haven't had the thermostat set to 'tropical' all winter I assume? That kind of gas spend is quite possible in a big house if people go overboard on the heating.

If you're certain it's wrong, you could always ask for the meter to be checked to ensure it's working properly.

That does seem right for a UK home with 6 bedrooms especially if it isn't properly insulated.

If it is then do check whether you have some dodgy neighbours that could be stealing your gas, isn't all that uncommon these days.

How much of the time do you have the heating on, and what do you have the thermostat set to?
