Music at Cambridge

So I've been looking at the music course on Cambridge's website and it looks absolutely amazing because I really enjoy the more historical side and social topics of music. But the only thing that's kind of stopping me is the students?

Don't get me wrong I love classical music as I do have asian parents but I love jazz, metal and electronic music as well and I was wondering if I would ever have a chance to stretch these wings you know? Does the university cater for that sort of thing or is there at least a scene for it? Please help.

There's definitely a jazz scene: a couple of big-ish bands and smaller ensembles, and several colleges will run jazz nights a couple of times a term - Clare Jazz and Jazz@John's are the two I know of, but I think there are others.

Less sure about the other two - I know there is a RockSoc, but I have no idea how good/active it is.
