Policing and Criminal Investigation Degree

Hello guys, in September this year I shall be applying to a university. Obviously, I want to study a Bachelor degree in Policing and Criminal Investigation. I would like to join the National Crime Agency or the Metropolitan police service to do detective work. But, I am struggling to find a suitable place to study because there are only a certain number of places that offer this kind of course.

My perfect University would be somewhere rural or coastal, it must be a nice campus and preferably, more coursework than exams.

Will someone people offer me some advice on selecting the right course please?

Thank you in advance,
Jack D

Hi Jack,

You're right that the kind of course you'll need to study is quite specialist and only offered in a few places! Have you looked at degrees in Public Services at all?

We run a degree in Uniformed and Public Services at Weston College which is awarded by UWE Bristol. It starts off as a two year Foundation Degree with the option to complete a third year to gain a BA (Hons). The Certificate in Knowledge of Policing is delivered as part of the course in the first year. This is the pre-requisite for most police forces so if you'd like to join the Metropolitan Police Service you would need to gain this qualification; it usually costs around £800 but is embedded in our degree at no extra cost. We also have strong links with the local constabulary which can give you an insight and potential opportunities for employment on completion of the course; many of our graduates have gained employment here previously.

In terms of your preference for coursework, if you do the full 3 years of our degree there will be 24 assessments in total, of which only 3 are exams (and 2 of those in the final year!). Weston-super-Mare fits your criteria of being coastal very well too!

Let me know if this sounds like something you'd be interested in and if you have any further questions!
