Social life at London universities sucks?

Compared to say a Russell Group like Leeds, Nottingham or Birmingham (esp. the campus unis), how would one of the London universities be?

Heard its harder to make friends
I study at UCL and the social life certainly doesn't suck and it wasn't hard for me to make friends at all.
I go to Queen Mary, which is the only Russell Group campus university in London, and it's just as you'd expect a university to be in terms of social life. There's an on-campus bar/club called Drapers, and all London unis are a stone's throw from some of the best clubs in the country.

If you don't like the whole nightlife scene, and you're just wondering about making friends in general, then the only way you won't make friends is if you ignore everyone, because everybody in every university around the world is eager to make friends, so there is no way you won't meet people. If you're super shy, then this might prove an issue, but that is a personal issue that you will need to address yourself - it's such a shame when you see a shy person let their insecurities stand in the way of potential friendships!

Those that aren't on a campus (i.e. LSE, UCL, King's, etc.) still have bars, etc. that are for their students, so there are plenty of opportunities to meet people and have fun.

At the end of the day, you are choosing the course because, if you hate your course, you will be miserable, no matter how amazing a social life you might have. Whoever told you it is harder to make friends is either lying or exaggerating!
I found it easy to make friends.

It depends on what you're like as a person.

Outgoing but I'll be a mature student too

Thanks. I go out a lot even now, but I'm a mature student (will be 23/24 when I start :ahee:) and I've also heard from friends that some of the people in London halls, especially internationals, can be quite cliquey etc. And it's harder to get to know each other in non campus unis apparently.

I'm still deciding my course.

Ministry, XOYO, Fire, Loop. I haven't actually been to that many clubs but there's loads of other stuff to do at night to socialise, as well as during the day. There's a bit of everything in London and it really is what you make of it. Also, societies help. With my sports club we hardly ever go clubbing together outside of sportsnight but we do loads of other stuff.

I went to a London uni and the social life was great, met loads of people and we stayed local & went into central London too. London social life is great, but of course it's as good as you make it 😊

I was thinking of applying to UCL or KCL

Would you recommend intercollegiate halls or the UCL only ones (if I get in)?
Awesome

Internationals can get a but cliquey, but this isn't as common as you'd expect. You definitely won't be the only mature student, but a campus university might feel more comfortable for you. Definitely look into QMUL.

Mhmm it depends. What is your likely budget? Apart from one UoL halls in the middle of nowhere, intercollegiate halls can be a tad expensive especially if you don't share. My halls was on the same road as UCL so I had a one minute walk to loads of my lectures and paid the cheapest price for a UCL halls because I shared a room.
Also do you want to be catered or self-catered?
