3 weeks since I received my offer, still not allocated a college :frown:

Unsuccessful at both my preferences (Clare & Trinity), not sure how long it normally takes to find a college when you've been pooled.

hey - how long did it take from receiving the offer until you knew that you did not get the preferred collages?

--and should we accept the offer before we see our acceptance to collage? As I understood we do not need to do so.

Just under a week for my CAMSIS page to say that I was unsuccessful at Clare, and then another week for it to say unsuccessful at Trinity.

You don't need to, but I have already, I don't see the point in not accepting if it's where you plan to study.

i am still on my exams time so just want to accept when will be eligible to upload and get all the "forms" and documents from my current uni.

I have received the offer on 13th of May - and I still have not seen any college making a decision.. it is just under consideration by college.
-so it is almost 2 weeks by now.. this is why i started to worry.

Don't worry, if you've been offered a place then you are guaranteed a place at a college, it just might not be one of your preferences.

Once you accept you have until the 31st of July to submit your documents (Transcript and financial undertaking form). It doesn't matter when you accept.

Thanks for the response. If you don't mind me asking when did you apply for the course and how long did it take before you got a response? I applied in mid March so it has been around two months now without any communications.

I applied around December 20th and was asked to participate in a Skype interview around early February. I got my offer a week after my interview. It does say somewhere on the website that it can take up to 7-8 weeks. Good luck!

Thanks that makes me feel a lot better. I sent an email to the department a few days ago asking if they could give me any idea how much longer it will be. Hopefully they will get back to me before long.
I've been stuck in "Awaiting approval by BoGS" for 5 working days and this really worries me a lot. I've gone through the posts here and it seems that this final stage should be a fast one. No idea what happened and because it's been almost 6 months since I made the application, I just feel frustrated. Any ideas? :frown:

Accepted into St. Edmund's College today. Any others here?

edit:

Seeing quite a bit of resentment towards the college in this thread...is there something wrong with the college in particular? Or are people just being fussy that it isn't one of the 'big' names? Kinda worried now.

as I know the BoGS can easily take one week or officially up to 10 days:smile: though the longest period (even moths) can be lost on the stage "under consideration by department". So I would wait for half of the next week calmly  they are the ones that check your application:smile:)

Thanks a lot. I'll try to calm down...

Hi,

Back in January, I had the same experience: 10 minutes interview, two professors (one being my potential supervisor), three standard questions ("what skill do you think you will need to acquire in the course of this PhD", etc.). Not a positive word, though they seemed satisfied with my answers.
Ten days later I was accepted.
So it is possible that your potential supervisor just went through the interview as a formality, and then preferred to keep it short. I would guess that, in theory, they would prefer to spend more time and ressources on candidates they are less sure about.

I just had a somewhat similar experience earlier this week actually. I was interviewed by two members of the department I was applying to (not sure if either will be my supervisor, I asked and they sort of implied no as they said Cambridge has many types of academics and that neither of them exactly match my research proposal's topic).

Interview lasted around twenty-six minutes, and I asked them about the process afterwards, where they mentioned they write a report, goes to the degree committee and then the university thereafter, but I should hear from them soon. So, no verbal acceptance or assurances for me, but I remain hopeful nonetheless.

I've been accepted to St Edmunds as well! I honestly wouldn't worry, from what I've heard from here and from friends, very few people, if anyone, end up not liking where they end up. It seems that from a funding point of view and perhaps facilities such as college library gym etc. that St. Edmunds is, for want of a better word, 'smaller' than some of the older, wealthier colleges. But if funding isn't a big factor for you I can't see it being a problem, main/faculty libraries are probably where most of the books you'll need are anyway and the university has a pretty big sports centre. From what I've heard it's a very friendly college and everyone who is actually there seems very happy, I'm not worried at all

Not a problem! I hope it goes well - if you have any other questions just send me a message.

Thanks for the reassurance. The location is pretty central, which was my main criteria anyway

I'm at Eddies right now and I'd echo what TremelliusScrofa said. St. Edmund's is certainly smaller and might not have as much in the way of funding and grand old buildings as some of the older colleges but there is a great, warm and incredibly lively college atmosphere and social scene. And it's not to say there aren't benefits - as an Eddies student, you'll be able to book Eddies punts for free, you can attend one of the most affordable May Balls (held yearly!) which is also the only May Ball on the hill, you'll enjoy the hands down best food at formals and have a hot commodity in terms of formal tickets that you could trade for tickets to other formals. There are also lots of great college sports teams and we had free weekly yoga this year!

So yeah tl:dr: St. Edmund's isn't super Hogwarts-y and there's not a lot of funding, but if those things aren't vital for your college choice you will absolutely enjoy your time at the college.

Thanks, that's great to hear.

How does socialising work with other colleges? I mean I'm sure there is friendly rivalry with other colleges, but is there lots of mingling between colleges? For example if you had friends at another college would you be allowed to visit them in their college bar/common room casually?

Soooo I checked today and have been accepted
already at Newnham college!!! (my 2nd choice option) So excited! I know it's an all womens college, anyone any inside information to share about it?!

Hey there, I'll be at Newnham too! From what I've seen (online) so far, they seem to have great graduate accommodation. Don't know more, so if there's someone already there, any information about the college would be nice ^_^

Hi! I'll be at Newnham too  I don't know much about the college, though- I'm international and it'll be my first time in Cambridge. I agree with you, accommodation seems great!

I'm also international, and I'm just curious how you will be financing your study?
