Current Psychology student - ask me questions!

Hey!

I started Psychology at Sussex in September, and was on TSR constantly last year when trying to make a firm choice, so I thought I'd offer a helping hand for those now in the same position! (also this is a great way to procrastinate :colondollar:)

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about the university, my course, and Brighton as a town.
I will be completely honest and unbiased in my answers, and will try to answer them as best as I can!
Though I've only spent 3 months at the uni and haven't experienced everything, I can tell you my experiences of starting Sussex uni with very fresh memory and try to give an insight as to what it's like!

Just leave a reply and I'll try to get back as soon as possible

What is a 'typical' sussex student like? What is the general atmosphere like? Is the course good and challenging?

Our first term modules are: Social psychology, research methods, cognitive psychology, biological psychology and developmental, though I've only covered a few so far! You can choose to specialise in cognitive though which is new this year and quite popular

Hard to say as I've met such a variety. I have met quite a few stuck up people, quite a few people who are more into drugs than what I would like but that's honestly common whichever uni you go to. General atmosphere feels nice, lots of people sitting in the bars and cafes during term time, and bus rides on the way to clubs everyone is usually hyped up and drunk which is good if you're into that and I suppose can be quite daunting if not. My course isn't what I expected in that I underestimated the amount of maths and science involved, so I regret not taking a gap year, what do you hope to study?
hi:smile:. I'm not doing psychology as an A level. Do you think it'll help if I studied some psychology before doing the course?

UCL recently got rid of their requirements for students to take Physics on some of their Engineering degrees to encourage more women to apply, maybe we could get rid of the need of Biology for medicine as women are more likely to do medicine and I believe more likely to take Biology.

Ofcourse it won't happen tho...

By the way it is a bad idea to drop physics as a requirement of engineering, im just highlighting the double standards.

Wtf wrong thread lol

I received my offers back in November and got offers from queen mary, brunel, city, surrey and sussex. Just wondering what is sussex university like? By the way it's for mechanical engineering.
