My Policies To Make Britain Great Again!

Poll

Would you vote for these policies?

Hello there, I am a Scottish Brexitor, yes we do exist and these are my policies to make Britain Great Again!

Immigration
- Moratorium on unskilled and low-skilled immigration for five years

- New international visa system with visa categories for highly skilled workers, tourists, students and family reunions

- Allow international post graduates from UK universities to stay in UK for six months to find work

- Migrants to UK to make tax and national insurance contributions for five years and gain UK citizenship before eligible for benefits and NHS treatment including migrants who have already settled here

- No visas for foreign criminals

- Migrants who commit crimes resulting in prison will have their visa revoked and be detained until they are deported

- EU Citizens who are in full time work, married to UK citizen, have siblings or parents that are UK citizens, own business that employs UK workers or have lived in country for 10 years to be given EU status visa which gives them permanent residency and eligible for UK citizenship test, EU citizens who don't fit the criteria to be deported within 12 months of exiting the EU

Culture and Media

- Abolish the license fee

- Shut down BBC Two and give the channel 2 slot to another network like UKTV, Sky, NBC, CBS, whatever to allow more competition in the UK television market

- Privatisation of Channel 4 (sell it to Discovery or BT as I heard they are interested in it)

- Privatisation of BBC and subjected to follow all OFCOM regulations (sell it to the Walt Disney Company, they own ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN networks which are similar to BBC channels I'm sure it'll be in good hands with them)

- Change BBFC ratings to U, PG, 12A and 16A, kids and teens watch 18 films all the time and parent don't care let Hollywood make money from them provided an adult is with them

- End the Watershed for TV and replace with a TV rating system similar to the US

- Amendment to smoking ban to give pubs and clubs choice of opening “smoking rooms”

- End the use of multi-lingual formatting on official documents, which will be published only in English, Welsh and Gaelic

- Allow political campaign advertising on TV & radio

- Bring back public information films like those used in the 1970s and 1980s like the Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water, Apaches, AIDS etc.

- Require all broadcasters to play two public information adverts by the UK govt and devolved govts during advert breaks of TV and radio programming as well as online video and music streaming

- In the run-up to general elections have three TV debates take place broadcasted live commercial free on the five main TV channels one involving all major political parties (Con, Lab, LD, UKIP, Green, SNP, PC, DUP, SF) one head to head with the Chancellor and Shadow Chancellor and a final head to head between the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition

- The Chancellor’s Budget announced and read out in Parliament from 7PM and require the five main terrestrial TV channels to broadcast it live so to important Prime Ministerial addresses and other important political events in Parliament and announcements Downing Street as broadcasting them at 10am is pointless as everyone is at work

Federalism and Devolution

- Reform the UK political system to become a federal system of government by 2030

- Create an elected two house English Parliament (the lower house: a 501 member House of Representatives elected under STV (4/5 member constituencies with Isle of Wright being a 2 member constituency) and the upper house: a 90 member Senate with the 9 English regions electing 10 Senators each) with powers that of the Scottish Parliament & Northern Ireland Assembly

- Reform UK Supreme Court by having 5 Judges, 1 appointed by the Queen on advice of the Prime Minister and 4 appointed by the Queen on advice of each First Minister of the 4 nations, judges should not be members of the House of Lords like currently

- Reduce voting age to 16

- Rename all Government departments to Government Ministries with exception of the Foreign Office and Home Office e.g. Ministry of Education

- Rename Dept. of Business to Ministry of Commerce

- Have all 46 major UK metropolitan areas and coastal sea towns have their own directly elected mayor (or Provost in Scotland) by 2025 with full control over their own police, fire & rescue, ambulance services, transport, tourism, housing, infrastructure, sports, economic development and power to increase the minimum wage which is needed in London. Done to make our cities bigger economic powerhouses like the major cities of US, Australia, Germany and China. Coastal seatowns also need more devolution as they were once an epitome in British culture but now struggle to survive due to declines in tourism

- Introduce the Royal finances reform charter which has UK Parliament to set an annual fixed budget for the monarchy - including an annual salary for the Queen - to be managed and reported on by a government minister, not Buckingham Palace.

- All security costs of the institution of the Monarchy to be made transparent and accountable. All costs of royal visits around the country to be incorporated into the monarchy's budget, not met by local authorities as well as all members of the royal household, to be required to follow the same tax laws and rules as all other public bodies and private individuals

- Transfer the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall into public ownership, with all revenue going to the Treasury

- Prevent the Monarchy from being members of the Privy Council, meeting the Prime Minister weekly and access to UK government documents like Prince of Wales has apparently gotten in the past, they should be completely independent from politics bar Queen Elizabeth singing bills, and appointing the Prime Minister

- Introduce US style long prison sentences by tripling the maximum prison sentences for all crimes

- Three strikes system for violent crimes in which a criminal is found guilty of committing a violent crime for the third time the criminal is given a life sentence without parole

- Have all police officers on patrol wearing duty belts that consist of a handgun, a Taser, an expandable baton, pepper spray, a set of handcuffs, ammunition magazines, gloves, torch and a two-way radio

- Reduce drinking, smoking and driving age to 16

- Ban age verification policies in retail outlets, bars and clubs which require age to be verified if it appears a customer is under 18, 21 or 25. - In Scottish education system cut all national 1-4 and advanced higher courses and qualifications in secondary schools as these qualifications are pointless and costly, make it mandatory for all secondary school pupils to undertake 8 national 5s in S4 and 5 Highers in S5 regardless of ability, allow S6 pupils to undertake 2 higher courses for subjects they took in S4 but at higher level, one crash higher and a vocational placement such as work experience in a primary school

Disliked education policies, they are too religious and monarchist.
You must have put a lot of thought into this!
Well I hope it's more successful than Trump's attempts at making America great again 🤔
I feel like the building of a wall somewhere should be included in that.
Agreed with or at least sympathetic to a good chunk of it. Here's where I disagree:

All of the federal devolution stuff. Nope. Waste of money and just encourages the nationalists.

Wouldn't give our police Constables handguns

Tripling prison sentences for all crimes seems excessive

Wouldn't lower drinking or driving age. Keep things as they are.

Wouldn't devolve taxes

Keep Bank of England name

Cut Vat not raise it

Welfare policies not realistic

Education policies likewise (I'd just ban Muslim and possibly Jewish faith schools)
Talk about 'needs a tl;dr'.
From a quick read quite a few of them seem reasonable or at least better than the current system. why not Rule Britannia for the anthem?
(edited 6 years ago)
Thoroughly support this.

Can't imagine why people would want a Republic.

I think i'd be paddling away on a boat from the shores of this great nation if Jeremy Corbyn or another socialist got in as President.
You win......there are too many stupid points to answer to.
Some good ideas but ultimately you are a statist that believes in big government.
NO I did'nt read all of that
I really wish people would look at recent history when considering proposals for the future.

In 1986, Thatcher privatised gas. More competirion would be a good thing, they said. Firstly, the government made a massive loss by under valueing the price giving a windfall to private investors. Then the fun began with door-to-door con men signing people up for contracts that were sold as cheaper but were not. Meanwhile, prices went up regardless of underlying wholesale price.

We are now in the position where 6 companies follow suit on pricing and the former British Gas pockets around £1 billion a year in profits. So that is British Gas customers paying £1 billion more than they need to for their gas.

With that in mind, how is a privatised, competitive NHS a good thing? Do you really want to be treated at A+E by the lowest bidder?
Britain was never 'Great' in the first place.

How are you measuring success? He has brought hundreds of thousands of jobs already.

There's a very strong case for lowering the driving age.

What I would personally do is lower it to 16 or even 15, but make it so you can't take your test until you've had your provisional license for 2 or 3 years. Start driving supervised at 15 and by the time you've passed you'd have 3 years driving experience (2 years if we went with 16) as opposed to just one year for a lot of people.

It would weed out the people who rush through it as quick as they can, improve road safety and could help cut insurance costs for young drivers.

That's actually not such a bad idea 👍

Don't like the idea of 15 year olds being out on roads so much, so maybe only at non rush time hours or something.

The only issue I can see with it is that you'd have to phase it in slowly, so that those who are already 16 and 17 when the changes come into effect are still under the old system. Otherwise you'd suddenly have 17 year olds who need to wait 3 years to take their test, which is just ridiculous and impractical.

Maybe start with just "you can't take your test until age 18" for the first few years, then move it up to "3 years from getting your provisional license".

I like this idea. The only problem with lowering the driving age is that it's impractical. It works in the US because 1. they have much bigger roads than we do, and they also have 'blocks' and very few narrow winding roads and roundabouts so it's generally easier to drive there. 2. They mainly drive automatics, so they don't need as many lessons (if any) as we do here, learning manual (and thus it doesn't cost them as much as to learn as it does here). So realistically, how many 15/16 year olds are gonna be able to afford to learn to drive anyway? Aside from those who get their parents to pay for it. It'll only really benefit the wealthier families who can afford the lessons for their children.
