Is it hard to make British friends

If you’re doing a study abroad program from America to England , is it easy to make friends and adapt to the neighborhood ?

depends on who you choose

just don't trust anyone
Just remember that if someone snakes you then you can’t go shoot up a school over it.
If your American you’ll fit just fine. People will be intrigued by your accent and life in America.
Coming from America I think you'll find people can be more private and spend a lot of time indoors. But that depends where, if you're moving to a big nightlife city the clubs/bars are a good way to meet people.

For me personally, I feel like I need something that brings me and another person together in a friendship like e.g. siting together in class, at lunch, having the opportunity to talk that way. I'd find it strange if a stranger just walked over to me and tried to make plans with me before having that natural meeting situation first!

I guess I understand now when people say British humor is different

I totally understand that, some people are like that over here too. So if you’re new do you just go introduce yourself to people in your class, wouldn’t that also be weird ? Over time wouldn’t you naturally just become acquainted with certain people?

The most sound advice in Britain right now.

What’s so bad about making friends? Obviously you do not trust every person that comes into your sight but over time..

when you make friends , you also make the opportunity for them to stab you in the back :/
Don’t listen to ray shadow their just winding you up. Yes socialising in the UK revolves a lot around the bar/ nightlife aspect. Speaking as someone from the UK I get very lonely sometimes. But all I do is stay in an smoke pot. Go out socialise, join a club. Volunteer a few hours a week if you want. People will always be happy to help you. People from the north are generally “nicer” than people from the south so keep that in mind.

It would definitely be good to introduce yourself! Especially if it's a class of people all new to each other, they'll appreciate that. British Universities are usually very multicultural and will have lots of different people. Also check out uni societies!

Students love a party too, invite some classmates over for a drink at your flat/a bar/pub crawl event.

Haha I was thinking of London and yea I don’t drink or plan on doing so . But joining clubs and socializing seems like fun and a good idea. What type of clubs do they usually have in universities ?

Yeah that’s the same here or in any country but what would make your friend want to stab you in the back..

their own agenda
they were just using you
they don't actually like you (they're fake)
They want to humiliate you

just a few examples

Are uni societies the equivalent to sororities because that would be really cool.

Own agenda?
Using me for what ?
Well if they don’t like someone or want to humiliate them what’s the point in trying to be friends with that certain person😬😂

well they just use you for their own agenda (as in to get something out of me rather than to be friends)

exactly why you can't trust anyone
