Help: Teacher financing a full-time masters course - is it feasible?.

Hi all,

I am a secondary English teacher 3 years into my career.

I am looking to take a year out in order to undertake an MA in creative writing. However, I have concerns about how it can be funded.

The maximum loan is roughly 10 and a half grand for the year. This can be used to cover both the tuition fees and living costs. So the tuition fees are sorted but ultimately I’d have to live in a cardboard box for a year.

Naturally I will be taking a big pay cut and would get myself another less demanding job to cover necessities. But with rent in Manchester looking more like London prices year by year, I’m at a bit of a loss for a solution here.

I am wondering if anyone is or knows of anyone in this position and if so how they have managed?
