Unification of Italy

Why were the liberals more successful than the republicans in the Unification of Italy

Radicals were republicans that were led by the likes of Mazzini. They were not as successful because their ideas of freedom of press, getting rid of the church I fluence and freedom of religion and distributing wealth etc were not really achieved. Also Monarchy remained in Italy. Liberals were successful as Italy unified and their were some reforms introduced such as voting increasing and removal of death penalty. Monarchy was still intact. But in reality both were not really successful due to Piedmont’s dominance over Italy rather than a whole national effort.
