Uni of Law or City, University of London?

Hi everyone,

I am applying as an international student so I'm not super familiar with Uni status, especially for the GDL, which is what I've applied for.

I applied to the University of Law and BPP and got an offer from both, but decided on the University of Law, mostly just because they have been way better with correspondence, which is super important I've found when applying overseas. Now I just received an offer from City, University of London (again, for the GDL), which was a Uni I vaguely researched and added as an afterthought to my lawcabs application.

I'm looking for opinions on what others think about these Unis and how they compare?

Sidenote: I do not have a TC (yet?!), so obviously if I get one I'll be going to whichever Uni they want me to, but I can swing it financially without the TC so I plan to do the GDL in September either way.

TIA

Hi, I don't think there's not much to choose between the University of Law and BPP.

One of my daughters did the GDL at UOL and to be honest, she received very little help when it came to applying for Training Contracts, and very little in the way of exposure to law firms. For this reason, I would personally pick City Uni, because they are likely to have better connections, which is so important for Law. The other two are very driven by the desire to make more and more money out of students, and don't seem to care how many of their students get Training Contracts at the end of it, which is not many. My daughter eventually went to another provider for specialist careers advice (Kaplan) and was told by a careers adviser there that it wasn't worth her progressing to the LPC unless she got a Distinction in the GDL. UOL had not bothered to tell that to any of the GDL cohort and lots of them blindly continued onto the LPC (not her) but sure enough, only the handful that got Distinctions in the GDL got training contracts.
