AQA English coursework ideas

For my English Literature coursework I have to write an essay comparing one pre-1900 book and one post-1900 book. I really want to use A Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting, Lolita, American Psycho, a book like that, but I have no idea on what pre-1900 book to compare any of those to. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

For Lolita you could compare it to Jane Eyre and how these female protagonists were partnered with much older men - and then maybe link it back to feminism as a theme?
You could also contrast the dystopian plot of clockwork orange to a utopian novel such as Gullivers Travels. Hope this helps!
