I don't know which career is right for me

Posting on behalf of my cousin:

"I'm in year 11 and I don't know what I want to do in the future. My family tell me I don't have to know exactly what I want to do, but I should have an idea of which direction I want to go in. But I really don't have any clue what I want to do.

Can anyone give me ideas on how to figure it out?"

Is there a career quiz that you found was good or did you take part in a programme that helped you decide what you wanted to do in the future?
Hi @FeenyK,

A quiz I have found enjoyable and interesting is this one: https://www.ucas.com/careers/buzz-quiz

I am part of a careers leaders group on Facebook as well and these 2 quizzes were also used & recommended:

Tell your cousin that it's really tough to know what career direction to go in and many adults continue to explore this throughout their lives. If their school has a careers advisor, it may be worth going to see them too to just have a chat. If they don't have one, they can get in touch with the National Careers Service to speak to someone: https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/

They may want to think about what subjects they currently enjoy and also what they enjoy doing in their spare time to help direct their thought.

Hope that helps a little bit

Hi there,

Looks like you've been given some great resources already we also have a careers quiz on our website that you can try - https://beta.nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/

We have hundreds of job profiles to help you with your career exploration and research too and if at any time between 8am-10pm you would like to talk it through with an adviser in more depth you can click chat online or call us for free on 0800 100 900.

It is really normal to feel this way, something a lot of people find helpful is volunteering or work experience if different roles to get a taste for different jobs. If volunteering is something you would like to try alongside your studies not only for your career but to boost your CV, you can check out www.do-it.org

Good luck with everything

Sophie.
