No not yet but I would imagine that 66% is high enough as last year sjt was the second test, verbal reasoning being first. I can't imagine they will be removing over 60% of applicants at stage one considering there are 2,3 more tests, then the video interview and then a cut off point for the interview. I'm not 100% but I'm basing that off the fact there's a publicly available document online stating how many applicants applied and got through at each stage for 2018 I believe. Removing 60% would be really high, secondly last year on stage 1 I got through with like 54%.

Afraid that it is going to be a really high 'hit' on the first stage of the process. I don't know the reason why, it is the decision that has been made this year.

I got the email this morning after completing on it Friday I believe. Don't worry, you got the exact same score as me. You should get an update in next couple of days. Just check junk email and login to civil service to be sure.

Ohhh

Youve been invited for verbal reasoninh

What was your score for the initial sift test
Hi guys I am new to this thread and this scheme! I just took my SJT and scored "73% better than other test takers", my application is now on hold. What are the next steps of the application like and is it a long wait ? ( i am also waiting for results on the CS fast stream and thats been a long wait!)

Hiya,

The next step will be verbal and numerical reasoning tests, plus the Civil Service Work Strengths test. There is information on these here - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/civil-service-online-tests

You should be told whether you've reached the next step shortly before, or on, 20 November.
Hi all,

I did the judgement test over the weekend and got 79 so fingers crossed its enough to go through.

Can anyone explain the difference between that judgement test we're already done and the strengths test? I thought part of the judgment test was a strengths tests (the first part?) so what's the difference between this and the upcoming one?

Verbal and numerical I'm totally fine with, but I don't remember there being a separate strengths test the last time I applied?

(I didn't apply last year but I applied the year before, I passed all the tests and 'passed' the video interview, but had an email saying there were too many people for the assessment centres that year and they were only letting the highest candidates in) they then offered me some other jobs a couple of months later because I'd passed all the bits but by that time I'd already got a job elsewhere.

So yeah I'm a little rusty on the application process, is there an extra test this year?

Thanks!

It means you did better than 71% of a standardised group. (Usually a group of similar people they would expect to apply to this job, from a previous year , ie grads for a grad job or managers for a manager position)

It’s not 71% correct, it’s relative to how well others did. For example everyone in the standardised group could have failed the test, and you also failed, just your score is better than the average fail.

It means they can create a test and it doesn’t really matter how hard or easy it is. If it’s super hard they can still tell the best candidates, and if it’s super easy they don’t have too many people to put though they can still just take the very high scoring people.

I was told it's against a group of people already at the target grade, probably HO in this case. That would make more sense than previous years' applicants etc, especially since the tests change from year to year.
Looks like this year the main test will be the new one (strengths test). Reading the application process on the website that will be the one that determines pass marks for progressing to video interview. Shame because normally a high score on SJT and passable marks on verbal/numerical would be enough to reach VI.

Yeah, I think you’re right, probably just the minimum on the verbal and numerical with the new work strengths one being the one that’s raised. Although we may be surprised and they do the average over all three!

I had a look at the work strengths practice one... and it doesn’t give you any result of how you have done; not much of a practice that is it? 😂. Anyone else found this?

Do we think 80% will be enough to pass the Stage 1?

This thread seems very quiet!

I think anything above 70% will be enough. I am hoping so anyway!

Hoping so, I got 73% - just applied on a whim, I'm in my thirties and wanting to change career. I know it's pretty competitive so I'll see how it goes.

Not yet, but the test is still open until lunchtime today for anyone who registered before the deadline so it’s unlikely they will set the pass mark before it closes.

I presume a human will have to look at the range of scores next week and decide the passing mark. (Depending on how well people did) which will probably involve someone looking, offering advise to a meeting room full of people, who then decide and approve, before it’s double checked, and comms go out with emails to everyone. 😂

Assuming a two day lag between each stage of approval I’m not expecting anything before the 19th Nov. But yes the waiting is the worst part.
