Does first year in uni actually matter at all?

It seems like it’s just a year to get everyone on the same level or something ??
It depends on the course and the university. Some count the first year, and some don't.

It depends on the degree/department/university. How you perform in first year can be used in weightings used to govern which degree type you can graduate with. For example, if you slump in 1st year of a MEng degree, you can be downgraded to a BEng or even a BSc if your 1st/2nd year GPA is below a certain threshold.

Please stick in and try your hardest and also don't forget to enjoy yourself too whenever you can. Both come hand-in-hand with one another.

Hiya!

First year is in an introductory year in so many ways!

It's a year to introduce you to lots of people and make friends, to settle in and to start the basic learning/ understanding on your course. You may find that you did the same/ similar subject at A Level so will re-cap some topics during your first year but also will be learning new topics you have never covered before.

You can also email your personal tutor to find out more about whether or not your first year contributes to your final year grade as it will vary across university's.
