Gap year in South Korea

I am half Korean, and have always wanted to be fluent in my mother-tongue. I'm currently in L6, and am very ambitious (I am aiming to study PPE at Oxford/LSE), but for my own mental health - and frankly, as a break from being in the education system - I think a gap year would be a great opportunity? I am still going to apply, and I think if I got into Oxford right after sixth form, I would definitely go. But I just think, if not, I could reapply the next year, and use that gap year to actually gain skills? I don't know if this is a good idea. I guess I'm just looking to bounce this off of others (especially those who have taken a gap year).

A gap year has positives and negatives. I applied for PPE at Oxford this year for deferred entry for 2022. Ultimately my plans have been shelved for travel etc because of ongoing pandemic so now I want to go in 2021. However I did not get an offer from Oxford (can't know for sure) possibly because I applied for deferred entry which is harder.
