College: Trinity
Interview status (invited or waiting to hear back): Invited
Supercurriculars/books/podcasts/articles you mentioned in PS: Talked a lot about colonialism and social constructs determining policy and the individual's relationship with the state; mentioned Baldwin, Fanon, Adichie, Ransome Kuti, Lorde and Ojukwu.. mostly African thinkers.
Predicted grades (only if you feel comfortable): A*A*A in Politics, English Literature and Spanish
If you already have an idea, which HSPS subject(s) you'd like to specialise in: Politics and IR but I'm lowkey excited about the other specialisms!
What courses you've applied to elsewhere: KCL for Politics (got an offer already!) LSE and UCL for Politics and International Relations, Durham for Combined Honours in Social Sciences.

What about you xx
Hey!
Applied to Clare, still waiting to here back 😭

personal statement wise mentioned: handmaids tale, invisible women, feminism is queer, think like an anthropologist, drums in the distance- journeys into the far right, drugs and stigma, and a couple ted talks!

Predicted grades: A* (maths), A* (English lit), A* (Politics)

Subject wise pretty sure i want to specialise in politics and sociology!!

other unis: durham, exeter (offer received), edinburgh, leeds

Interview status: Waiting to hear back
PS: Authoritarianism and right-wing populism, decline of democracy in the Netherlands in particular. Mentioned one of Anne Applebaum’s books, Model European Parliament and a political opinion piece that got published in a national newspaper.
Predicted grades: International student, so maybe not much context to get out of this - I am predicted a 8.1 grade average for the Dutch VWO diploma though, which roughly translates to A*AA or A*A*A.
HSPS specialism: Politics and IR, but Politics and Sociology looks great as well!
Other unis: LSE for Politics, VU Amsterdam for PPE (already conditionally admitted!)

A few questions to get us started
College: Jesus
Interview status (invited or waiting to hear back): i do be waiting tho
Supercurricular/books/podcasts/articles you mentioned in PS: very P and IR focussed but a lot of issues within it, Wollstonecraft in Macbeth; my RAB essay + money laundry + end of western hegemonies? and broader issues like accountability and how moral dichotomies constrain populations/have global effects via world orders and hegemonies; my EPQ on the impact of the Cold War and USSR in Central Asia specifically but also on the need for a global perspective as seen in Rupprechr’s 1989; how recreational arts can allow citizens opportunities to express themselves or conduct activism in ways that are inaccessible in typical politics like elections + TED ED The danger of a single story
Predicted grades (only if you feel comfortable): 4 A*s (EPQ, History, French, English Lit but my school does offer sociology and politics I just didn’t know at the time what I wanted to do)
If you already have an idea, which HSPS subject(s) you'd like to specialise in:

PS: Talked a lot about international relations, with a focus on Asia. Mentioned 'The Dawn of Eurasia' by Bruno Macaes, plus In The Time of Madness by Lloyd Parry, plus Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent believe it or not!!
Predicted grades: A*A*A* (Plus A* in EPQ, not sure if Cambridge care about that??)
HSPS Specialism: Politics + IR, but it's the multidisciplinary nature of the course that appeals to me!
Other unis: St Andrews (got a reduced offer of ABB from them yesterday), LSE, Edinburgh and Bristol

Best of luck to everybody in their applications!!

mine talked about a variety of things but was based around the question of whether we are currently living in a dystopian. So spoke about feminist ideas, drug addiction as a symptom of inequality and then the far right… seems like a random mix but makes sense in my head lol

How is In the Time of Madness? Just ordered it after studying East Timor in politics and was fascinated and am hoping to get it read by my interview lol

I really enjoyed it - I went to Indonesia in 2019 and read the book soon after so found it interesting to contextualise my visit, considering the violence was so recent. It's surprisingly easy to read, plus his description of massacres in Borneo and Timor, as you say, is harrowing. Definitely worth reading - it's a really underreported part of recent history.
College : King's

Predicted grades: 3 A*s + A* in EPQ
Specialisation: Sociology and Politics
