What happens if you don't get into uni?

I'm seriously worried about this. I asked my head of year about the possibility of re-sitting exams but they kind of just dodged the question and told me to revise, so now I really have no idea what I'll do. What happens if you don't get high enough grades and don't get into uni?

If you don't get either your firm or your insurtance place then you can go into clearing, which allows you to apply to univeristies that have spaces on the courses. Or you can try to retake an exam (if your sixth form will let you) or you could look into degree apprenticeships.

You should focus on your grades right now, but you are right to keep an eye on other options if you think you might not get the grades.
In addition to the above, you could also see if your uni(s) offer a foundation year for your course. Bear in mind that this would incur another year of fees and living costs.

Hi there

Whilst it is important to work hard and aim for high grades, it is always worth creating a plan B or even a plan C for results day if things don't go as planned. If you don't get the grades for either your firm or insurance then here are some options on what you can do...

- Clearing - https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/results-confirmation-and-clearing/what-clearing
https://www.ucas.com/clearing-launch
- Foundation year - https://www.kent.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/foundation-programmes
- Re-sitting - Talk to your school about this (they will likely be more willing to discuss this option once you have actually sat your exams)

Other pathways:
- Degree apprenticeships - https://www.ucas.com/apprenticeships/degree-apprenticeships
- Apprenticeships - https://www.ucas.com/apprenticeships
- Take a gap year - https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/student-life/gap-year/gap-years-ideas-and-things-think-about
- Study a different qualification/work

Hope this gives you an idea of your options post results day. Nevertheless its always beneficial to think positively! Best of luck with exams and getting into uni but try to not put too much pressure on yourself. What will be will be

Best wishes

if you don’t meet your offers you can go through clearing (although they might accept you anyway if you were close)you’d need a clearing number and then you phone up universitys for courses you do qualify for. It’s very worth while getting a few university written down before results day if you feel like you might of messed up clearing opens on 5 of July but you can’t go through it unless your holding an offer and some places don’t announce what’s available until results day it’ll be in The Times iirc you never know you might be ok. Lots of people say apply to your firm in clearing with lower requirements (some places lower their requirements in clearing) but i don’t know what level of success they have.

Basically 4 things can happen
1/ They take you anyway.
2/ They offer a related course change course change like a FdENG instead of a BEng.
3/ You go through clearing.
4/ You resit (I wouldn’t do that one)

Hi there @pythonpy !
If you don't get the grades required for your choices then you have the opportunity to apply through clearing after results day. You can choose a different university and apply to their course if they have any spaces available. If this doesn't work out for you then you might have to look at re-sitting the exams in the Autumn/Winter time or next Summer when next year's students are taking them. I imagine your head of year avoided the question as it doesn't look good on the college if anyone fails. Although I seriously doubt you'd fail, the short answer is if you don't get in through clearing then you'll either have to resit them or try a different path. They are right to tell you just to revise, that's probably the best thing you can do right now.

Hope this helped!

A levels exams can only be taken in summer so the OP would have to wait until May/June 24 to resit.
