can someone explain Firm and Insurance choices to me?

so i understand that one you get your uni choices you select two and one is your firm and the other is your insurance

but what if you only get one offer and four rejections, what do you put as your insurance then?
and even worse what if you get 5 rejections, what happens then??
In the first example you’d have no insurance, only a firm.

In the second you’d be eligible to use UCAS Extra, then Clearing later in the year.
can i reject my insurance or firm if my results are higher than expected on results day?

Yes, you can reject all currently held offers to self-release into clearing if you wish. Note that this does reject your offers and so you will no longer be holding any offers (as that is the criteria required to enter clearing). So if you then don't get into the course you want to via clearing, there is no guarantee the uni(s) originally giving you an offer will take you again.

If you only get 1 offer then that is your firm. your firm will be the offer you like most. So you’ll make your choices probably after some open days then you’ll get invited to applicant days which are a great thing to go to particually if you didn’t get to go to an open day you’ll then choose the one you liked most as firm and you insurance will be the second favourite usually with a lower offer than your firm (please make sure you like your insurance so many people don’t).

If you get 5 rejections you enter something called extra where you apply to other places I think you get 5 more options UCAS should send you the details should this happen.) and if that fails r you don’t meet your offers on results day you will be able to go through Clearing where you call up universitys with your clearing number and results and ask for a place. The times (I think usually have a full listing of places with clearing places available on results day so it’d be a good idea to note down few of those numbers so your fully prepared on result day if everything goes a bit pear shaped.

Hi there

As mentioned above if you only get one offer and four rejections then you would have no insurance, only a firm. If you get five rejections then you would be eligible to use UCAS Extra. Alternatively you can go through clearing on results day. I will leave some useful link below that you might like to check out

Can you apply to any university of UCAS extra including other russel group?
You can only use extra if you are holding no offers.

As far as i'm aware you can apply for any uni however whether or not you get an offer/place will depend on factors such as availability on the course and entry requirements. You can only apply for one uni at a time, however, there is no limit on the number of unis you apply to.
Hope this makes sense
