Extenuating Circumstances

I was speaking to a friend of mine recently and she told me that she had to resit a few of her assessments because she had failed them. After speaking to her more about it, the reasoning she failed was because a close family member had passed away; her family and herself were grieving during the assessment period.

She was telling me her results would be capped because she was resitting and she didn't think to apply for an EC at the time.

My question is that is she able to apply for an EC now, even though this situation was months ago?

I'm hoping she could somehow resit her assessments at first attempt.

She needed to appeal the grades within 2 weeks of the exam board releasing the results. It may be too late now. If she had appealed then I am confident that the appeal board would have said that the resits would be considered her first attempt and her marks would not be capped.
