Sciences Po or Georgetown for postgrad in International Security Studies?

I'm a student from South Asia who has been accepted into both Georgetown University (for their MA Security Studies Programme) and Sciences Po (for the Masters in International Security Programme) and I am having a dilemma on which one to choose. I wish to work in the applied field of international security (in international organisations like the UNSC or INTERPOL), and as of now am not too keen on entering into research or academia. Both Universities have wonderful courses and are highly ranked, but I was hoping for some advice on which Uni might be better suited toward my ambitions.

Hello!

I have not attended any of these institutions but I am French and have a fair understanding of top IR schools. If money can be an issue for you, Sciences Po is by far the cheapest option (althought not cheap). However, if money is not an issue/you got a scholarship, I would direct you towards Georgetown more than Sciences Po, except if you are planning on living in France.

While Sciences Po is very highly ranked, it is know to create all-rounders with no particular scpecialisation and little hands-on experience. On the other hand, top IR schools in the USA are known to provide a solid education and hands-on opportunities. Also, the mentoring and networking opportunities in Georgetown are likely to be way stronger than in most schools in the world (yes, Ivy League included). Further, you will be more likely to specialise in whatever area or combination of areas at Georgetown.

This is just my opinion, I would strongly advise you to contact actual Sciences Po and Georgetown grads (check on LinkedIn or on the programs' webpages) to have a better understanding of how it is in reality.

Congrats on getting in two very selective programs!

Thank you so much for getting back to me on this! Your answer was really insightful. I've been in a dilemma because in terms of ranking, Sciences Po seems to be much higher than all (#2 in the world for IR), but their course seems to be rather theory heavy so I was unsure whether it would prepare me for on-field employment opportunities... Thank you so much once again!

My pleasure! Based on this reply, I would strongly advised accepting Georgetown. Yes, Sciences Po is highly ranked in one ranking website, but an American school of Georgetown's calibre is a better option in my opinion and is likely to be regarded as more prestigious overall.
