What is a good laptop to buy for uni?

I am going to be doing some intense university stuff and wondering what a current good laptop would be spec wise and data wise and be a good budget but quality laptop to have long-term. I have a budget of £200-300. I'm not financially stable at the moment. I would really like some help, thank you.
I ideally want to buy one from Argos.

Hi!

Since you're planning to do intense stuff on your laptop, then it would be better if you could stretch your budget and try something from midrange to premium category rather than entry-level ones. Anyway within your budget, these are some of the options you can have a look at -

Are you averse to shopping second hand? Also clarify what you mean by "intense university stuff", in terms of what software you'll be using?

I have thought about it but I'd prefer something new.

I won't be using specific software, just something that would be good for any uni student!

I'd take your pick between one of these, nothing fancy but honestly speaking for £400 it's hard to get anything better without going second hand.

I totally get you, I know it'll be hard for £400, most really good ones are £500+.
Thank you for these suggestions too!

No worries! Always happy to help! 😊

P.S. Forgot to add one more info which is when you purchase a laptop with Windows 10/11 in S mode, you won't be able to download software from other external sources except for Microsoft Store. So, be mindful of your preference too.

Thanks! Even with other laptops there's issues with overheating, freezing screen and battery issues. How can I avoid picking one with these issues?

Welcome! Well, you won't be able to get rid of those issues completely, even though you can minimise them. For reducing overheating, you need to keep it on a hard surface, fix the cooling fan in case the heating issue arises, or invest in a cooling fan, whilst you should be aware of your device's ability to run as many tasks as it can afford, end background tasks that are causing issues, or try to restart it or troubleshoot it in order to lessen screen freezing. To prolong the battery life of your device, follow a constant cycle of charging, like powering it up when you switch off your device entirely, setting a limit on when the battery saver can be turned on, and keep charging when you update the OS. These are some of the factors that basically cause those issues.
