Should I do a maths degree or something more vocational?

I have looked into doing engineering/computer science degrees before but I think that I'd enjoy a mathematics degree a lot more. Would it be more valuable/beneficial for employment to take a degree like computer science over maths?

Not really. A large amount of CS graduates cant find jobs. It is far higher than Maths graduates.

Whether something is valuable would depend on the demand for it. I think a better starting point is to look into what you specifically want to do after uni e.g. there's no point in me saying you should do a degree in computer science when you want to go into mathematical research.

If you want a degree that would allow you to go into the most fields, a degree in engineering would open more doors than the other 2 degrees.
Having said that, it's said that the average pay for people with maths PhDs can be well into the 6 figures, but this would depend on the specific role that you are applying for (low pay roles, irrespective of your qualifications, will still pay you little).
A standard engineering degree would contain elements of maths (since it's essentially applied maths) and programming. However, I would double check the syllabus to double check. A standard maths degree on the other hand would only contain maths and a bit of programming. A computer science, contains not that much maths, but the most amount of programming.

Whatever subject you choose, pick a course with a placement / industrial experience year.

This gives you valuable work experience to add to your CV and will greatly improve your graduate job chances, and will add 'context' to your degree studies.
