Do cold showers actually help with recovery after a workout?

or is it a myth?

I can't produce the evidence but the ethos is that significant cold temperatures around muscles and joints in the first few hours after a workout (or injury) reduces the production of the inflammatory chemicals emitted by damaged muscle fibres.
I used to do this. DO NOT TAKE AFTER WORKOUT. WAIT 4 HOURS. SURE IT REDUCES INFLAMMATION BUT HYPERTROPHY TOO
