Claiming job seekers allowance (or any kind of benefits) will not negatively disadvantage any future academic or professional endeavours, and I'm pretty sure discriminating against those who previously had claimed such benefits would be illegal in the first place. Not to mention, impossible for any university or employer to find out legally anyway besides you just telling them yourself.

Contrary to the beliefs of the editors of the Daily Mail, benefits are not actually a "bad" thing and in fact exist to support you and encourage you to be able to get yourself to the place where you can do something else and not need to claim them anymore. And for those who have significant barriers preventing them doing that, they are there to ensure they don't end up dead in a ditch (literally or metaphorically).
