Admissions process for similar but (with variation) courses at the same Uni

There are a number of universities that offer similar courses but with minor variation - a good example being 3 or 4 year course or in some cases additional year for industry or international placements but there are some more complex examples too (i.e. additional specialisations etc).

Is there any particular advantage (or disadvantage) for opting for a particular course or this really depends upon how the particular uni deals with applications? In most cases the admission stats look quite similar - that would suggest they don't care which flavour of course one is applying for. Also is there an easy way to spot related course (than say a completely separate one - Computing vs CS and Math might be a good example)?

ALWAYS check this with the University!

Often these different 'pathways' in the same subject are considered as one course group, with no separate offer quotas or target numbers - and therefore you have exactly the same chance of getting an offer whichever variation you apply for, and therefore 'applying twice' is pointless.

Just phone/email each Uni and ask - before you apply.
