Primary Education QTS

What are the best universities to offer an undergraduate course in primary education with QTS? I definitely want to do a QTS course, I am just struggling at the minute to decide which universities to apply for. I am predicted AAA and want to apply to some good universities but I’m not sure which. Thanks!

Hello @eemilylouisee

I'm so pleased you're asking here for guidance of where to look to complete a degree with QTS. However, no one will be able to tell you the best university to go to, and what is best for someone else, may not be the best for you. It's quite an individual decision that you need to make, and needs to be informed by the reasons you're looking to go into teaching. Some of your time on your degree with QTS will be spent in your schools placements, where you'll practice your teaching skills. The kinds of opportunities and experiences that you gain in your placements, will affect the application you make to a school for your first teaching job. Therefore, you need to do a lot of research into the universities to find out where the schools are that you may do your placements in, and the opportunities on offer.

Additionally, look at your employment opportunities in Primary teaching after you graduate, and what your quality of life would be while you are studying. Outside of your day to day studying, what extra-curricular skills, qualities or attributes might you be able to build away from the lecture theatre or classroom? Perhaps there is a BSL club that you could join so that you could become a specialist in meeting the needs of hearing impaired children in the classroom, or learn an overseas language, or be part of a sports team, or Maths society. Anything that would enrich your teaching career moving forward. Also consider the cost of living in the areas that you'd like to move to, to study.

Do go and visit the Universities that you'd like to apply to. Find out what they are looking for in an application, in terms of experience other than academic. This will help you to prepare your UCAS application.

Wishing you the very best!

Hi Jane,

Thanks so much for this! Will definitely research more as there’s a few factors here that I hadn’t even considered
