Student finance on a gap year

I applied to some unis as a backup choice if I decide not to reapply for another course in October 2024, should I apply to student finance right now just in case I go to the backup unis or should I wait and apply for student finance in feb 2025?

Also can I apply now, then cancel and then apply again next February?

Student finance applications for Sep/Oct 2024 entrants only open end Feb/early March. If there is a chance that you might go this year, then apply. If you don't go then you can cancel your application, and reapply next year.
