Where to get special needs assessment carried out?

I am applying for DSA and it asks for evidence; my last assessment was when I am 15, and it requires an assessment after your sixteenth. So I'll need to get one done how do I go about doing this, how much does it cost and will they pay me back for the cost of it?

Thanks!

Step two: you supply proof of your disability or condition

You’ll need to supply evidence with your application of your disability or condition.

For example, if you have a disability or ongoing health condition it may be a letter from your doctor or specialist.

If you have a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, you’ll need to provide a 'diagnostic assessment' from a psychologist or suitably qualified specialist teacher. If you’ve had a diagnostic assessment in the past when you were under age 16, it may need updating.

You’ll have to pay for any tests to establish whether you qualify for DSAs. If you need a test but cannot afford to pay for it, you may be able to get financial help through your university’s or college's Access to Learning Fund.

Contact your uni disability office - they should advise you what to do next. Failing that have a chat with your GP, school or college - they should be able to advise you on what to do.

I know what you mean though - when I started uni I was asked to give evidence that I had dyspraxia and I didn't know what to do - the disability advisor explained it all and put me in touch with an ed pysch who assessed me.

Good luck

Neither my school or university has any advice.

That's a bit unusual. Well, you must have a GP - surely they can give you some advice? Which uni is it?

It's Durham and they said they can only help if I am in England, and my school says they're not qualified to offer help in that.
But I'll try my GP it just takes 3 weeks for an appointment.
OK - well if you aren't actually at the Uni yet you'll be OK to apply for the DSA once you've started at uni, it'll make no difference to things really. Yes - ask your GP. But if you're not even at Uni yet you might be a bit ahead of yourself in trying to sort it all out.
