where are all the geek girls?

I'm 21, male and single. I've never been in a relationship or even so much as kissed a girl. Probably not all that uncommon. The sensible thing would just to try to be happy and get on with my life, but I think the thing I want most right now would be to meet someone awesome.

It's just that people say not to get too worked up about it and let things happen. I don't think that will help in my case unless I change something about my life - I simply don't tend to meet women much and am not sure how to resolve this.

I go to university and have made friends which is nice but I don't think I'm likely to meet girls through friends since most of my friends are male and the few that are female are in relationships already and THEIR friends are mostly male too. (Since my whole social group tend to have similarly geeky interests and hobbies)

I go to a few societies but they all tend to be predominantly male and don't tend to get much of a flow of new people. Sports clubs don't seem all that great either - I don't think much socialising goes on apart from during socials and I'd feel weird going to sports socials on my own when I don't go to the clubs.

My friends don't tend to go clubbing much anyway but I'd be uncomfortable approaching girls in clubs - and it's probably not a good way to meet people.

It'd be nice to meet someone with SOME similar interests but not sure what to do...

get out of your comfort zone. go with a friend and join a society that you never even dreamed of joining.

if you don't get out of your comfort zone, things may not change. you live life once, why not have a go at many different things. you will meet different people and make more friends, expanding your friendship circle and making more opportunities to date. Do things away from uni as well. join other clubs and classes away from uni and meet people there.

if you don't like clubbing thats not a problem. its not the place you want to meet a girl anyway.
when you say 'geeky girl' do you mean that you want someone thats into sci-fi and comics and loves lord of the rings and stuff like that? depends what your interests are cus there are loads of girls that im sure will have the same interests as you in uni

Why is meeting people in clubs bad? They're just regular people.

Girls who are actual true geeks are extremely rare.

Untrue, I've met plenty of really great girls in clubs. That's where I met my girlfriend as well.

I'm sort of a geek girl (although I prefer nerd, it sounds less derogatory to me!) and my boyfriend is definitely a nerdy guy. He really appreciates me, and we both know that we're not the sort of people who find it easy to find a partner.

You don't really need to do much to meet girls, you just need to have the confidence to talk to those you do find. A lot of nerdy/geeky girls probably won't seem that different to the rest until you get to know them - me and my closer female friends are all the sort geekir guys tend to really appreciate, but you wouldn't guess it unless you've lived with us, or been part of our friendship circle.

They could be hiding themselves in some corners you'd never expect them to be.

Yeah, a lot of people go clubbing, I feel "geek" types sometimes assume we are all sex crazed laddish hedonists.

One of my mates has quite geeky interests, and met his girlfriend on some forum or something, though I guess you still have the gender ratio problem.

well your kinda outta luck cuz the "nerd" subculture is a sausage fest, at least 90% of nerds I meet are dudes so If you want to meet a girl with similar interests you might have to change your interests, For example In my area (Essex) there's a whole bunch of girls that are TOWIE puppets, you could look into that.

Theres got to be a happy medium. Like my main interest is football, but I wouldn't talk to a girl about it much, because most aren't interested. But I wouldn't watch ****ty reality tv either. Having different interests is fine. In the same way, if a girl wants her boyfriend to love shipping, she'll struggle too. Finding love isn't about checking off a list. Urgh, that sounds like a line off a romcom. Another thing that you shouldn't pretend to be interested in for a girls sake.

Few girls are true geeks. And that is not akin to saying girls are dumb or uninterested in science or anything considered "geeky".

Being interested in science/math or being a bit socially awkward is not really super "geeky" behavior at all.

Rather, I am talking about true geeks/nerds. I am saying that girls are far less likely than men to utterly obsess over something to the point where that obsession takes over them and destroys any chance of having a social life or intimacy with anyone other than fellow geeks (not to mention it causes them to have appalling hygiene).

might really depend on your preferences, likes, dislikes, interests.

Why do you say "true" geek girls, it really sounds like you're saying many girls are "pretend" geeks.

I also disagree with the part in bold. You should see the fandom side of tumblr.

id class myself as a geeky sort of girl but i still go to clubs. Just cause were classed as geeky doesn't necessarily mean we're socially awkward or anything!

I would like to think that they are playing computer games and surfing the internet .... You just need to get out there more and try more new things, although you shouldn't really be doing these things JUST to meet girls, I just don't see the point in that personally, but if you enjoy doing it and you meet girls through it then I guess that's good?
