Hey I started at Uclan in September, thought id come online and see if anyone needed any help or advice,a i was in your position last year.

Firstly UCLAN isn't a large school, but it is Amazing, ive learnt so much in the past 8 weeks. So far the majority of our teaching has been lecture based, but its really interactive as there's such a small year (32 people). As a result you get to know the staff really quickly.

I believe next semester we'll start having PBL sessions.

You're based at the DECs from your 2nd year, and that's where the majority of both your teaching and Clinical training will take place, although you will come back to preston for specialised courses.

It is really competitive, last year they had 600 applicants, interviewed 180 for 32 places, but any help you need at all just message me, and il try and reply as soon as I can.

1. UCLAN - Anyone know much about the teaching style at Uclan? The website states numerous methods, but I would like to know whether it is mainly lecture based?
Also regarding being based at one of four dental education centres - is this purely for clinical training or training for all course material?

2. Manchester - Considering whether to choose manchester instead of grad entry to uclan, but the heavy emphasis on PBL really puts me off. Anyone know how competitive UKCAT scoring is between sheffield and manchester?

3. References - I assume everyone is using university tutors / project supervisors for references. Have your tutors asked for key evidences to support their claims in their references? (eg. exam results)

Hi everyone! Has anyone heard anything back from Universities yet for PostGrad Dentistry? I've had emails saying they've received my application and are processing it, but nothing else yet. I imagined the response rate would be quite quick as applications are sent early.
I have applied to Aberdeen, Kings and UCLan. If anyone else has applied for these universities I'd love to talk with you! Good Luck to each and every one of you on your applications!

Im at liverpool now and i would say dont get put off by pbl. I have only done 6 weeks of it but im confident that i have learnt and retained a lot more information than i would have if i had just been told stuff in lectures. it does sometimes get annoying because the level of detail you need to go into is not always clear but i definitely dont regret choosing it over lecture based having done a previously lecture based degree.

Does any1 know how much detail we need to go into for each of the topics? from the verfication document it seems like they just want us to have a basic understanding ("describe, outline and explain") and then convert this understanding to MCQ answers
