Umm, yes you do...

You can get your marks back for each subject, if you ask your teacher, or at least our school has this information to hand but I don't know if all other schools do this. All schools get told the marks / percents / bands (decided by the SQA) for each student for each subject, but I know quite a few schools don't like their pupils asking, I guess it takes quite a lot of time to look it up.

I am absolutely 100% sure of this, although I know though some schools don't do this. Our school does because it is fantastic for the SAQ form if you are applying to Cambridge for example, to say you got several (or straight!) A band 1s. I know most people in my year don't bother checking this either but I always check the marks for all my subjects :colonhash:

I mean statistically the difference between and A* and an A could be 100% - 70% = 30%, which could be the same difference between an A and a D 70% - 30% = 40%, so I always like to find out

They're just known as 'A Band 1'. The highest grade you can achieve based on the Scottish education system is an A.
Very few universities care about banding except for places like Oxbridge.

You do know I just finished my Advanced Highers right? There was no need putting in all this effort.

You said it yourself they are called A band 1s - they don't appear on your results sheet nor do they incur any further UCAS points. Thus, they are nothing like A*s.

Sorry I though A* and A band-1 were synonymous, is there a difference between them?

I know that when Oxbridge make conditional offers they say on their websites for A-Levels for example that they want A* A* A or similar, and of people I know who have had Oxbridge offers "two A band 1s and an A" seems to be a fairly standard offer. I just assumed from this that A* was shorthand for A band-1...
