Is internet porn ruining our next generation? Is censorship the answer?

Porn has been shown to have damaging effects to the psyche. It activates the reward pathway in the brain and releases dopamine, giving it similar properties to addiction and many people do get addicted and require treatment. It gives unrealistic expectations of the human body (for both genders) as well as what to expect from a sexual partner. There's also been a correlation between watching porn and being unsatisfied with your sex life in some Asian country.

Plenty of studies highlight what I've mentioned above, but I don't care enough to link them and I'm sure someone will throw a contradictory study in my face anyway, though I'd disagree with their conclusions. Yes, it's decadent and a shame that our generation utilise the easy access they have to porn but at the same time I don't think censorship is the answer and won't work either way.

Part of the reason it's so popular might be the lackluster sex education we get in the UK. I don't blame everyone for being curious and watching it when there aren't many other sources for us to learn from but porn still has more damaging effects than good.

Having sex also releases dopamine. Does this mean people should stop reproducing? If someone is addicted to porn in this way, then surely there are people who are addicted to sex, but there aren't many negative effects to it.

If it gives unrealistic expectations of the human body, why are there so many people who find bfs or gfs?

I believe the county you are referring to is Japan, but even their females who do not watch porn have less interest in sex than the rest of the world. The main reason for this is because they live in a stressful environment with high expectations, and are usually too tired to want to have sex.

You say that you'd ignore any study that shows that porn does not have a negative effect on people, but you support studies that agree with you. You are just cherry-picking, and not considering different possible perspectives.

I don't see what a lack of sex education has to do with the popularity of porn. Porn is popular in countries where it is available, and it is the case even countries like the Netherlands or Switzerland (which I'm assuming are the kind of countries you are comparing the UK to in terms of sex education).

Well I laughed.
And are you saying porn has biologically matured people for sex?
That is kind of silly because porn as far as like videos on the internet which is what we're discussing, developed in the late 20th century.
But sex and humans have been around for 100s of 1000s and millions of years, dude. So were people just cumming off the top for all this time?
No.

Do you know how good your great grandmother's life? Bloke probably had to cum twice in 5 minutes and get hard again to be able to finish the job lol.

Drugs? Stop right there :talkhand: No way...step into my alleyway office *gives you a subtle signal*

The internet is impossible to censor. Drugs, guns pretty much anything can be purchased and sold on the internet. You just need to know where to look.

Do you know to make these erroneous theories about old people sex? It certainly didn't prevent them from continuing the human race.

That actually works?? And by simply choosing to look like you're from Indonesia, you can fool the government? Excelleeeeent. :ahee:

Well, the government just lay down the rules, the Internet Service Providers by law have to put these blocks in place, and it seems that they're not at all bothered about trying to find a way to stop these things happening since they've technically done their job and fulfilled their legal obligations by blocking access to the sites by all users of any of their IP addresses.

well I don't watch porn like others so ...
I think with so many porn sites it can pressure the younger generation to lose their virginity early. not saying having children is a bad thing but these days a lot of young females are becoming mothers at such a young age and struggle.

Unless the gov't taxes porn, how does the gov't. benefit from porn? Not being sarcastic, do they economically benefit from porn?

The government does tax porn. The porn industry in 2006 generated an estimated £20billion worldwide with £1billion origininating in the UK (Source: ChinaDaily a large Chinese economic news source) with 40% of couples surveyed in the UK admiting to frequent viewing of pornography (Source: DailyMail).

As much as the UK doesnt levy a direct porn taxation it is taxed by many means. VAT during distribution, large amounts from income tax by members of the porn industry & corporate tax by pornography producing companies based in the UK.

It is also proven that atleast in the male reproductive system that frequent masturbation is healthy and prevents infection and infertility later in life and like with marajuana there are as many studies disputing any long term detrimental effects as there are proving them so there is really no way to base any form of prohibition on scientific fact as it is still an unknown.

Any form of legislation would be reactionary and emotive which is an extremely bad way to run a government.

Well you can "continue the human race" in 5 strokes. Not too fun for the mum though. Just saying.

Oh, I see. So they just willy nilly put some code in that "blocks" people but of course someone else has a code that unblocks the block lol

They tax porn?? Oh my, I had no idea  Well then this changes everything. If the government taxes porn then yea they'll do porn the same way they do liquor, which is restrictions like legalities and things, but no full prohibition, since that clearly doesn't work. I think it's sick that they are benefitting off porn and the gov't is now pretending to take the moral high road proposing a ban. While I think it needs to happen I take no politician seriously.

Oh, yes, I was thinking while I asked about economic benefits from porn if they charge corporate tax for the companies and the buildings they film the porn in. It's like with drugs; police only have an issue with drugs because they're not getting a cut if it's sold underground and dodging taxes while profiting. The gov't doesn't give a **** about the environmental risks.

Well with women masturbation I think is less beneficial because even though it eases menstrual cramps, I think it eventually creates heavier blood flow and it also increases risk of heart attack by .2% each orgasm. My friend showed me a Cosmopolitan article. Doesn't stop me though, even though I was hospitalised once.

What children? You can't incubate children on a keyboard or monitor.

Just an FYI the UK already has some of the most prohibitive pornography laws in Europe. Technically importing porn into the UK from abroad is still illegal at customs but this law is made somewhat irrelevent by the internet. The UK also as the strictest guidelines in the western world as to what types of porn are actually acceptable to produce and too consume.

However I believe Italy and the Netherlands are the only 2 countries in Europe which levy a tax specificly for porn producing companies. I really dont think it is needed.

Its one of those things though. The sex industry whether it via pornography or prostitution has been operating within our society for hundreds of years, and like drugs any form of prohibition will be proven as ineffective over time as there will always be people willing to provide the service for willing consumers regardless of legislation. The only difference prohibitive legislation makes is the criminilisation of people who are making no harm to society and the deregulation profits and safety.

Well, it's more the ISPs saying "All of our IP addresses come with the block" and people saying "Fine, then we'll use a different randomly-generated IP address"
Yea porn is ruining the current generation of young people in regards to their views of sex but censorship isn't the answer.

The issue will sort itself out long term

You're right. Nobody likes to see degrading images and videos of women showing their genitals, commiting gross sexual acts and having unprotected sex out of wed-lock...

...more than I do.

haha such a troll:biggrin:

ye but you can find a porn video where they're doing some new position you've never seen before. Then you can try it out lol.

lol you say that as if new positions are being 'invented' every year.
xD
There's only a limited amount of positions you can try out before you break something

Don't snip my image, I worked hard on it :frown: lol

I totally knew the first paragraph because British porn is ****.
(In relation to levy tax/removing property when in debt) No, have you seen Italian porn? They need to take severe action to protect their profits
They should definitely be more strict on the judicial/penal side of porn, rather than futile stances to ban it, the stupids.

Is internet porn ruining our next generation? Is censorship the answer?

These scholars and experts are at the forefront of this research. Apologies but you will have to listen to at least one of these clips to get what this O.P. is all about.

Is it possible that in sexual matters, the right wing conservatives might be ahead of the left wing in their thinking?

If not, then what should the left do to help us save our children from the indoctrination via internet porn into unhealthy and unwanted sexual habits? Or have them not be able to perform without porn?

I consider myself left wing but I think we may be going a tad far and should move to the right on this issue due to things like you saw in the clips above as well as what is shown in this clip below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=aQIBpGu5I6E

At one time, parents would have closed any shop that gave access to the young to porn. Yet today, parents do not seem to care and as more and more young children get cell phones, parental prohibition will be impossible.

Have parents forgotten how to parent and are men and women willing to allow the status quo to ruin the sexuality of the next generation?

"Censorship reflects society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime." - Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart

To date, I have lived by the above quote. I do not lack confidence in our adult population but see this issue as more of a medical one and I am willing to censure for our children's sake.

Some Eastern countries have used censorship to gain control of what their children can access. Should the West do the same?

Are our children worth it?

DL

Moral decay of a society has lead to this... doubt censorship will improve the situation. Even in the East, censorship gets by-passed year 8s, not really difficult to do. Society has decayed to the point, where people aren't even ashamed of admitting to watching porn, disgusts me really.
Best thing would be just to close down the entire rotten porn industry. Porn industry wastes peoples time, objectifies women and causes the morals of society to decay. For me, I see it as having sufficient external costs (and really no external/private benefits to society as a whole) to justify ridding the world of it.
