RAF PTI- When will it re open?

Hello, i was wondering if anyone has any idea when the role will re open, ie in the next few years or even next year? I have spoken to raf recruitment who said they don't know i am just wondering if i am lucky to come across anyone with insider information. I am about to take a apprenticeship in swimming and fitness instructring in a lesuire centre to improve my skills and confidence so i will be ready when the time comes. Also is there anything that will help boost my prospects, such as doing a leadership course? I am extremely passionate about helping other people improve their fitness and diet and this is why i want to join, specifically being a exercise rehabilitation instructor.
Nobody here will have a better idea about the Trade re-opening.
You need to be fit. No, fitter than that. REALLY fit. It helps to be very good at a sport or two. Most of the PTI's I knew were high level competitive sportsmen and women in their respective sports - running, rugby, football, tennis.

There was a guy here a while ago, he was talking about needing to be county level in two sports, I think?

That certainly used to be the standard expected.

Thanks guys. Yeah I am running outside 3-4 times a week looking at increasing it to 4-5 times a week, I live in a really hilly area so it's great for my CV, also at the gym twice a week for body weight exercises and using the machines to increase my upper body strength. I must find a sport I am good at and progress in it, as I imagine it will be a few years before the trade re opens. Thank you for advice

It might be a good idea, I'd maybe join a few more while you're at it! When you go through selection you are tested in 10+ sports (football, cricket, basketball etc) and required to instruct an aspect of a sport as well (serving in tennis). You also need to be a brilliant swimmer, I mean perfect stroke technique, as you'll one day have to instruct this too. I would make sure you're practising you're mile and a half run on a treadmill as this is something you'll be tested on early in you're application, and the better your score the more the more competitive you're application will look. You should also be getting a competitive press ups and sit up score. Bleep test is another big one they like to test you on, and again the higher you're score the better you look. A PTI I know regularly gets 13 and he's 40, think accordingly!

Thank you for giving me all these tips! What about rugby? My fitness is very high, my run time is 9:15 at its best. Press ups are 67 and sit ups 64 in 2 minutes, but i know i need to improve. Im looking at taking a apprenticeship in swim teaching and fitness instructing which will help me with that side of things

Those scores are great starting points, but definitely carry on working. The PTIs that beasted me on a regular basis were all 8 minuters or better.

I'm going to guess you're 19, based on your username, so unless you already have 2 sports you're very good at that might be the weak point of your application. Rugby is a good solid one, but do you have another? Presumably you've got a good sporty aptitude, so picking up new sports won't be hard for you, but getting to the level they're going to expect might be.

Have you tried getting in touch with any PTIs? Arrange a station visit? Might give you some insight.

This might give you an idea of the type of tests you will do. Will have changed a little, this is a list from a few years ago.

Cheers Drewski, i definitely will. Ive been looking at football, as i used to play in defense, ive just moved to where im living now, im going to check the local area for clubs, but i agree that is the only part of my application im concerned about, as im keen on that apprenticeship for my swimming and teaching skills. I haven't thought about that but would love to go on one. How would i go about it? Thank you

Find out which base is nearest to you / easiest to get to, give them a call - they'll have a public affairs / general enquiry line somewhere. Failing that, go ask your AFCO.
