15/09/18 Week 2 [Update #2]■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■Personal Statement (Thursday 13th)Throughout year 12 I made a list of the things I'd done (both relevant to Comp Sci and not relevant like D of E), and also bullet pointed the skills I'd gained from each of those things (I found this really really helpful when starting to write my personal statement so if you're in year 12 atm I'd really recommend doing the same). I started writing my personal statement a few weeks into the summer holidays but I literally had no idea how to start so I watched videos and stuff on YouTube and most people said just write everything you think is relevant and then it's easier to cut down from that. So I did that and ended up with like 3 pages of writing (making that list into coherent sentences basically). I kinda gave up after that cos I was kinda intimidated by having to cut it down. On Thursday I decided to go to my form tutor to get her advice on what to cut out and stuff. I felt like it was the best decision I'd ever made cos she went though it with me and managed to make what I'd said in like a paragraph into 1 sentence that was just as effective. And told me which bits are irrelevant and which I should definitely keep. I felt so bad cos I took up most of her lunchtime but I also felt so relieved at my personal statement no longer being insanely long. I need to type up that edited version after posting this
(which is probably going to be a difficult task cos it's lots of scribbles and tiny notes crammed into the sides of what to change)
Maths Test (Friday 14th)All this week in my frees I went to the Library and did Maths questions as revision for the test. I feel like it mostly paid off but there were a few questions on proofs (one of my really weak areas) and I just could not do them at all. The good thing is the teacher said the rest is really hard before even giving out the test papers and after the test everyone I talked to had struggled in similar areas so I'm hoping that would mean the grade boundaries will be lenient. I'm confident that all the questions I did manage to complete is probably correct. (Apart from stupid mistakes here and there which I've hopefully avoided
).
Summary & AccomplishmentsThe week went pretty smoothly overall and I feel like I was quite productive and actually didn't procrastinate much.
In Maths we did revision for the test and the test itself with 1 Maths teacher and started Differentiation with the other Maths teacher. It's not too complicated so far and I'm understanding the teacher quite well so it's going ok. Biology on the the hand is going so fast I can't even process what's going on. At the weekend I'm going to focus on getting the notes done (which I didn't do as I was revising for the Maths test) so I can begin to understand everything. I've also been thinking about narrowing down my list of unis to just 5, which is proving to be a very difficult task as everyone also seems to have different contradicting advice.
