Why does it have to involve transactions?

I agree with op.

When thinking of whether or not to develop a relationship, you have to be like sir Alan sugar considering a business deal. You have to think what’s in it for me? If the answer is nothing, and the other party is just taking taking taking, you have to, with regret, fire them for your own good, difficult though this may be.

If only I followed this advice.
