Genius. that will stop people.

Oh wait, they can just catch a flight to korea or japan, and then to the UK from there.

If someone wants to get there, short of banning all Chinese people from entry, there is little you can do. (And even if you banned all Chinese people, it wouldn't stop people like me who live in China on a british passport.

Continue getting butt hurt and writing a whole story over sarcasm imo

I really wish people would stop acting like its the black plague or something.
The only people so far who have died were in some way shape or form immuno-compromised. You WON'T get a fatal flu from playing basketball with Chinese university students, and some of the behaviour i've seen from some people on the internet (such as people saying racist things like "they eat dogs! what did we expect!") is frankly disgusting.
Like if everyone could grow up about this that'd be really cool.

Eating bats is fk disgusting no argument, bats are a type of rats if I remember correctly, what sane person will eat a rat?
Don't get me started on eating actual rats which people in China do.
If you eat every single breathing thing on this planet it shouldn't be too surprising when **** like this goes down.

"There are plenty of treatments for flu, we arent living in the dark ages of medicine"- you.
You appear to be confusing flu with coronavirus. There are no cures for either.

Which part of treating symptoms is confusing you?

Rats are rodents, bats are an entirely different thing.

Still disgusting to eat a bat, I know people will say "That's subjective" but seriously, there is not even that much meat on a bat and bats are well known to carry many viruses, Ebola started in bats.

If they were properly checked and certified fit for human consumption it wouldn't be such an issue, but in areas with little to no regulation on meat sales there will always be issues.

Personally I wouldn't mind eating bat provided that it was certified safe.

Well the outbreak isn't over yet so it's hard to determine the mortality rate. Only a handful of those infected have recovered as of yet, so I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. HK is basically in a state of emergency now with entry points partially closed, school, work and any mass congregation suspended etc. There is a reason for it; you should read KY Yuen's article in the Lancet talking about the high chance of community transmission in Hong Kong and the high probability of it becoming the next Wuhan if proper precautions aren't taken. The UK however is obviously at a much lower risk so no need to freak out as of yet.

And in the UK we eat dried pigs blood and sheep heart, brains and other organs chopped up and cooked in its own stomach.
So you really don't have an argument in my eyes.

Oh boy, one since 36 year old doctor whose medical history we don't know of died, sound the alarms! /s
"Perfectly healthy" adults die all the time of sudden cardiac arrest because they actually had an arrhythmia which was never caught because they never got tested. We don't know if this doctor was in perfect health, and even if he was thats 1 confirmed perfectly healthy death out of what? Hundreds at this point?

Two people have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, the chief medical officer for England has announced.

Prof Chris Whitty, chief medical officer for England said: "The NHS is extremely well-prepared and used to managing infections and we are already working rapidly to identify any contacts the patients had, to prevent further spread.

The average waiting times in emergency departments is insane and all hospitals are complaining of being extremely short staffed and this Prof Whity is saying we are prepared...lol ...All you need to know how wrong this guy is is work in the NHS for a day or get sick and go to your local hospital emergency department. We are not prepared at all. Over ten years of austerity coupled with ten years of influx of millions of east europeans, has left the NHS struggling barely able to cope and on the verge of collapse, so much so that the government is thinking about selling it to private companies.

i am so annoyed that they escorted them (the brits) to the UK in the first place!!

Picture yourself in this situation.
If you're stuck in a quarantined city, would you not hope for your Government to help you?

For me nope I'd rather be gone... (Plus I could harm others (by spreading the virus)) so it's a win win for myself and others but yeah I do agree with you the idea of being locked out of your own country sounds horrid!!

Aye, I get that. The thought of potentially spreading it to others would be awful. I just think it would be a little inhumane to leave them there, but that's just me.

They aren't even the people tested positive. And they will be in a 2 week quarantine.

You never know whether there's a cover up on the Chinese side. Ever since SARS I think most people highly distrust the Chinese government in providing accurate information about the virus. It's slightly better this time but it's not ideal. Only after Winnie the Pooh said they have to put people's health first did the cases increase twofold overnight. There have been rumours that the Chinese are controlling the increase in case numbers by controlling the number of test kits they distribute.

Didn't people stop eating/selling offal when there was that BSE outbreak etc though?

Cooking live lobsters/crabs might be a better comparison if those bat soup memes are to be believed...

The H1N1 virus started in pigs (pork). Salmonella can be found in chickens. Dogs can develop rabies. Your argument that ‘Ebola started in bats’ is essentially invalid unless we account for every single disease spread by every single animal. Though you do not have to agree with eating bats (neither do I), you should at least respect people who do. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, and some things that might seem disgusting to some are completely okay to others!
